I've understood that the posters who do box and compete in events are a lot more respectful towards fighters and don't go off yelling that someone is a ***** or a bum or whatever.
Challenge to anyone on here...

Yea man.. I remember when i heard that the amateurs fights were three 3 minute rounds, i was like that's nothing. Oooo was i wrong
9 minutes of fighting is times harder than running for a hour and a half

I've been boxing for 3.5 years now. I remember when i didn't go to the gym. It was easy to yell at the TV and say WHY THE F*** DIDN*T YOU GET AWAY FROM THAT SHOT YOU ****** MORON!!!. When i joined a gym and felt what it is like to step into a ring and fight someone, you just get a whole new level of respect to the guys that fight. That's why i never diss a fighter, you can't call anyone a ***** who was stepped through those ropes to take on another man who wants to destroy you.
I just recall that when I stepped into a ring for the first time it was amazing how quickly I disregarded everything I had been training to do. You visualize yourself kicking the **** out of your opponents then you get in the ring and think "ummmmm, so when should I jab again?" LOL. It was like learning to walk all over again.
It gave me a new respect for the mental aspect of the sport and understanding of how important it is to be calm and focused in the ring for the entire 3 minutes.Comment

I have been boxing for 5 years, but whether your a boxer or not doesnt mean you cant criticize the fighters. Its just like every other sport as a fan you can praise or criticize the professionals. Its not exactly fair but we are the ones who give them a job.Comment

You're right man. I never call fighters "bums", it's just too disrespectful.

One thing I think is interesting that I wanted to point out in this thread......
The gym I go to has aout 30 guys who train there on a week to week basis. Out of those 30 I would say that only about 5 of them are huge fans of the sport, watch all the fights, and have a million opinions like the people around here.
I almost never talk boxing with the guys at my gym because most are completely ignorant about the sport, ie "Do you think Mayweather will fight Hopkins next?"
Most of them are just tough kids who like to fight. Most aren't real athletes in the sense that they chose boxing because they didn't have the natural abilities to excel in football, basketball, baseball and chose something where hard work and toughness would level the field.Comment

I do that already. And what? You can call a guy a bum if he acts like a bum and fights like a bum.
Get off your high horse pal.Comment

Hahahaha, what a ******ed argument. I don't have to play in a band to know Bon Jovi suck, I don't have to work in McDonalds to know their staff are incompetent and I don't have to lace up some gloves to know Enzo Maccarinelli is a ****ing bumComment

I agree, to a certain extent criticism should be expected and embraced by a fighter.
For example, I recently trashed David Haye over his performance against Valuev saying it is laughable that the guy averaged 12 punches per round for a 12 round fight.
I look at it like this, If I went into my gym and had a 6 round sparring session and proceeded to run all over the ring without throwing punches for a full 18 minutes everyone in the gym would laugh at me, my trainer would ***** me out, people would probably be booing from ringside and the guy I was sparring would probably never bother sharing the ring with me again. If that kind of fighting isn't acceptable for mere novices who aren't getting paid then there is no way it should be allowed to be passed off as World Championship quality boxing.Comment
