    Should "catchweights" be allowed?

Branching off a topic started by another poster.

Basically, should fighters and their management be allowed to impose a weight limit WITHIN actual weight limits? For example, the 145lbs. Roach-weight strategy. Its a ****** loophole that should be taken care of accordingly by the boxing commissions and associations.

    Vote and discuss.

I dont like it at all but they can allow it as long as it doesnt involve title fights, The Pac-Cotto WBO belt at a restricted 145 shouldnt have been sanctioned by the boxing organisation IMHO.

It was never disallowed. They never restricted the catch weight agreement. It's more like a contract between the two fighting party. Get your facts right guys. and if you don't follow it, then that's your problem because by then you'll be paying tons of cash.

      Ask Mayweather.

I never said it was a fact. I am fully aware that it is an agreement between both parties. What I'm trying to say is that commissions and organizations should not allow this because of how people have been taking advantage of it.

The only reason fighters agree with it is because either they'll say they're ducking someone. Of course fighters want to fight to get money and do what they love, but they have to agree to this ridiculous clause just to get the opportunity.

Well catchweights are there to try and take something away from the bigger man by making him work his body harder to get down in weight, i don't care what anybody says it's got to take something out of them by doing that, giving the smaller man an advantage. If you're going to step up and fight someone do it at their regular weight so both fighters can be as healthy as possible.

If both fighters agreed then what's the big deal....There's a reason why it's called a contractual agreement...

Yeah, where the lesser of the two fighters is already coming in losing the fight.

Cotto looked comfortable at 145....He didn't look weight drained at all....Again, if you don't like catchweights then don't sign the contract....It's not like they're pointing a gun at you to agree....

Looking fine and performing at 100% are two different things.

And if he didn't sign everyone and their mom would've said Cotto was ducking Pacquiao.

A lot of people were saying that Cotto was at the best shape of his life....Being in great shape affects how you perform on the ring....Catchweights are fine by me as long as it's not far from the maximum(2-3lbs)....
