If they got Pacquiao #1 and Mayweather #3 or possibly #2
      after Jan.30th
what that means is that if Pacquiao and Mayweather fight next, Their fight will be for the RING and The Offical Lineal Welterweight Title.

      This **** is boaderline corrupt.
Because Mosley last Week was #1
      Mayweather was #2
      and Cotto was #3

and Manny Pacquiao was not even ranked...

So the question is, How does not beating the number #1 or #2 fighter in the division get you the #1 spot?

Pacquiao beat the RING's number # 3 welterweight in the division...
When Pacquiao wasnt even ranked...So at best he should have got the #2 spot and they still Keep Mosley at #1. But obviously that didnt happen.

So how do you go from not even being ranked and fighting the #3 fighter... To being #1?????

Very Very Slick **** the RING MAG. is doing...
They are setting up the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight to be for the RING title and the Lineal Title....

Even though I discredit the **** out of Mosley accomplishments for his cheating... He is about to get some karma serve to him when Neither Pacquiao or Mayweather will have to go through him in order to be the Offical and Lineal Champion of the division.

I guess he is getting what he deserves...
Too add to this, I wonder why they dont make the votes public on who voted for Pacquiao to be #1?

Some people think that a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will crown the linear Welterweight champ and that's not true. They only do that in some cases. #1 would've had to have beaten #2 at some point I believe. And Pacquiao has not beaten Mosley and vice versa. It is crazy that Ring has ranked Pacquiao over Mosley though. If Mosley didn't have another fight signed I could maybe see it. But Mosley beat Margarito at the time he was ranked #1. Combine that with the fact that Margarito had just beaten Cotto, loaded gloves or not. Mosley's win over Margarito holds more merit over Pacquiao's victory over Cotto even though I was impressed with both wins and I'm not trying to discredit either fighter.

I was one of those who opined Manny should be entered at number TWO. I can't see rating a guy #1 on the sheer principle of a catchweight and beating Oscar means next to nothing to me quality wise.

THE RING’s Ratings Panel of boxing journalists from around the world and the magazine’s Editorial Board were so impressed with Pacquiao’s second showing above 140 pounds (the first was his one-sided beating of Oscar De La Hoya last December) that they installed the fabulous Filipino as the No. 1-rated welterweight.

The move put Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 knockouts) ahead of former Cotto-victim and current beltholder Shane Mosley.

Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs), who lost a unanimous decision to Cotto in November of 2007, was dropped to the No. 2 spot in THE RING’s welterweight rankings.

Floyd Mayweather, the former RING welterweight champ who debuted at No. 2 following his comeback rout of lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez in September, dropped to the No. 3 spot.

Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) was pushed back to No. 4.

“Manny Pacquiao’s TKO of Miguel Cotto drew a wide array of suggestions from THE RING Ratings Advisory Panel,” said Nigel Collins, Editor-in-Chief of THE RING magazine, “and the majority felt that Pacquiao deserved the top spot. The Editorial Board agrees.

“Shane Mosley (No. 1 last week) has only fought three times at welterweight since he lost the 147-pound title to Vernon Forrest in 2002, winning a decision over Luis Collazo, losing a decision to Cotto, and stopping Antonio Margarito. Mayweather (No. 2 last week) has never faced a true welterweight anywhere as good as Cotto or Margarito, and in his only fight since his lengthy layoff he faced a blown-up lightweight.”
Pacquiao beat Cotto more impressively then Marg did and so even though Mosley wiped out Marg, they think Pacquiao should be ranked #1. Also his win over DLH helps his spot too.

Not a bad decision. I agree with it.

I'd still have Mosley number one, but considering Cotto beat Mosley and Pac just destroyed him, this isn't a bad decision.

So why didn't they award the ring/lineal title to pac then?
By this report, pac is basically 5-time lineal champion.

                      It indeed is corrupt.
