Felix Trinidad Sr. Not Happy With Cotto's Corner/Trainer

Listen man, I'd love to think that Cotto will change his mind, but the truth of the matter is that Cotto is as hardheaded as they come. Cotto could've been an all time great if he had a different corner and if he listened to advice. The truth of the matter is that he has run his own career this entire time. Evangelista wasn't in charge in the camp; that's exactly what Cotto told Evangelista in their fight. He said: "I'm the boss here". And he always acts like that.

Miguel has great skills, awesome power but no real desire to re-learn or learn how to develop these things. A few trainers, including Emmanuel Stewart offered their services to Cotto, only to be turned down... why? Because Cotto knows that if he gets a legitimate trainer he'll have to listen to him and he won't be the boss anymore and this is something he can't tolerate. And now, when the press asks him if he's going to change his corner he asks them with genuine surprise in his voice: "why should I do that? the corner's fine"... I know he doesn't want to throw Santiago under the bus... and that's good. But the truth of the matter is you need to go back to square 1 if you want to continue fighting at a high level for a few years. If not, his career is bound to end like Tito's.

Agreed, thats the reason why I ask myself if an elite trainer would make any difference at all on Cotto's camp. Its worth the try thou, that and try 154 see how that goes or fire Landman.

Sr was good at one thing, keeping Tito in top shape, he failed helping Tito box, Cotto and Tito are the opposite, so it may not be all that bad.

Agreed. The problem with fathers is when it gets to the point where their sons have learned all they can from them. Same thing with the Mosley's.

Sad but true!!!! It would probably wont matter who you bring if Cotto will be as equal as hardheaded as he has been.

He needs a new trainer. A trainer that is not his friend or some1 he can BOSS around. He needs some1 like EMANUEL STEWART or MABE even Trinidad Sr. perhaps. Trinidad was a GOOD pressure trainer who taught timing, pressure, and effective movement. He knew how to cut off the ring and he should be in the running because he trained the hardest 2-fisted puncher/fighter of this time.

SR. will not bring nothing to the table in defense which is where Cotto needs to improve. Emannuel Stewart is an option if Cotto is willing to trust and obey.

Senior is right, cotto can't be the boss in the corner... he's got to have a mentor not a friend as a trainer.

True on both. Evangelista was a time bomb waiting to explode and it finally did. The fight between them was actually because Evangelista had his personal interest 1st (training other boxers at the same time) and Cotto's team second.

True but for future fights and to return to the top level and fight the top boxers at WW he should improve his defense and Joe is not the man that will be able to do that.

What a huge waste of talent if he doesn't get a new trainer. He can have the best trainer and still not improve his game if he's too stubborn, but at the very least he needs someone who knows when it's time to throw the towel for his own health...

Miguel Cotto is too stubborn. He should have known with Manny having
Roach that he needed somebody that could match wits. Anyway, water
under the bridge. Should be interesting what his uncle has to say.

I agree with Trinidad sr. Cotto needs someone to take charge, and give clear instructions in his corner. He boxed perfectly in the first round, the corner should have told keep using the jab and box.
