Stop with the "Cotto was shot" comments

Sorry but you can't use that excuse on this one.

Cotto had 4 months of solid training and getting down to weight in a very healthy manner. He didn't look drained or weakened, as a matter of fact he looked strong as ever.

Also, Santiago did a great job IMO as far as strategy for this fight. Cotto came out, used the jab and did very well in the first few rounds.

People ask why Cotto didn't throw more or use the jab more. I will tell you why. Because after the 3rd or 4th round, Manny was timing the jab with that lead "check" hook of his and then following it with a straight left.

It's hard to keep throwing the same punch when your opponent is countering it consistently. Anyone who has ever fought or even sparred understands this.

Cotto was in tip top shape, well prepared but just ran into a destroyer in Pacquaio.

Saying Cotto was shot is taking away from Pac's victory. Cotto looked good in his last 2 fights, getting through a rough cut against Clottey and KO'ing Jennings.

Pac is just on another level and some people just don't want to admit that.

exactly.... first it was ODLH was just weight drained, then it was Hatton was shot, now its cotto's shot....

if he fights someone that isnt "shot" they will say so and so is "green" or "over rated"

cotto still has some good fights in him IMO

You know, I still don't think Cotto was shot.

I disagree that Manny was timing Cotto's jab. It was still effective every time he threw it, he just stopped throwing it, hoping to counter Manny instead. Had he kept using the jab consistantly, kept Manny fighting off his heels, he'd have had a much better chance of having his body work pay off later and stopping Pacman. Instead, he started brawling with a much quicker guy who packs a big punch, thinking he'd make a short night of it himself.

Manny is in SUPERB condition, and can take a punch. No way he's going to get caught early and KO'd, which is what Miguel was hoping for.....you can see it by the way he fought the first few rounds.

Cotto should've kept throwing the jab and doing the body work he did early. WOuld've been a pick'em fight if he had.

Anyway, glad I didn't put a couple hundred down on a late KO win by Cotto like I considered.

Oh.....and yeah, you're right....Cotto isn't shot, not nearly. He and his trainer (if that's what his trainer told him to do) made a bad strategy choice, that's all. He has the tools to beat Manny, he just didn't apply them properly. Happens, sometimes, when a fighter doesn't have the right experiences to make him understand what he needs to do to beat a particular opponent.

Cotto stopped throwing the jab after he got knocked down the first time. He got counterd by a right hook and a straight left hadn and he went down. After that he was never the same. He ignored his body attack which would have worked in my mind if he used it. He got hurt and fought like it the rest of the fight. Cotto is far from shot he was just overmatched in there and abandoned his game plan and went into survival mode after the 5th....Lefty

Does anybody doubt that Cotto would beat Malignaggi, Hatton, Marquez today and battle Shane Mosley? Therefore he is not shot.

Good observation. After the first round, I said if Cotto fights like this all throughout it would be a tough fight for Manny. He abandoned what he did in the first round and got lured into a type of fight he thought would favor him. Cotto thought he would walk down Pac but it was the other way around. Cotto lost focus and could no longer fight like he was in the first round but thats what happens when you fight great fighters like Manny. Cotto was not shot. He was the best I have ever seen him actually.

No disrespect intended but none of the reasons youve mentioned clear up the question of was Cotto shot. No amount of training, conditioning, or strategy will reverse being a shot fighter. Cotto might not be totally shot but he is clearly not the same fighter he was befor Margarito.

                    I agree with this.

Oh, well I hope Ccotto gets Roach or Nacho as a trainer and start doing the things he needs to do.
