Mayweather-Pacquiao Has To Be Made, Says Schaefer

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has a hard task ahead; negotiating on behalf of Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a possible showdown with Manny Pacquiao in 2010. He says the fight is something that has to happen. He is confident that a deal can be reached with Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank. Both fighters are known for their tough tactics at the table. This fight is no different because both guys want more than 50% of the money. Mayweather did over 1 million pay-per-view buys for September's bout with Juan Manuel Marquez. Pacquiao's numbers for Saturday's bout with Miguel Cotto will not be released for a few more days. The numbers will play a big role in the talks. [details]

the numbers for cotto-pacuiao will play a big role in whether pac gets a 50-50 split or not....regardless, once the numbers do come out, i expect negotiations to not be as tough as everybody thinks. this fight MUST be made. if not, it'll be a black eye for the sport and a slap in the face to true fans of the sport.

damn ANYBODY who keeps this **** from happening.

60/40 since Manny just beat ****ing Cotto. And boxingscene has little kids now calling Cotto crap but Cotto is a great fighter who just lost to even better fighter... Manny is just a freak of nature. But atleast Cotto put up a fight when he lost, he didn't go out like Ricky Hatton or Oscar. And theirs a good chance Cotto fought the best version of Pacquiao. Meaning Pacquiao may have gotten better and had great sparring Partners for this fight.

He'll take it or something close to it if Pac puts up a huge number with the Cotto fight and he probably will

There is a lot of money on the table for this fight, if both guys want the bigger piece sounds like they should both settle on an equal split.

The fact remains that they need each other to make the biggest possible fight in the sport, the only fight that casual fans crave. They can both make good money with lesser guys but this fight is the true main event.

Man, I'll bet Shane Mosley is pissed that his own company is trying to **** block him from a fight with Floyd or even Pacquiao for that matter. I'll bet you that during the lead up to his fight with Berto that he will say that he is done with Golden Boy Promotions. He should.

I have mentioned in the past couple of weeks that I for some reason have lost interest in seeing Mayweather fight Shane. And the only way that I would get interested in it again is if Mosley blew Berto out the water. At this point in time, Pacquiao is on fire. That is true even if Margarito was a harder opponent than Cotto and Hatton. That inactivity that Mosley has suffered cannot be good for him. And it's his own fault too, because Berto avoided this fight for a long time when Paul Williams would've fought Shane Mosley at the drop of a hat.
