When has that so-called off balance been a problem? When has he been knocked down? How many times has that "off-balanced" footwork opened up angles for him or helped him avoid being hit? Anyone can plant their feet, not everyone can bounce around to force openings while avoiding being hit.
Roach: I don't think Cotto is that good!

That's a good point, and one I used in a discussion we had on here about Joe Calzaghe some time ago. Someone said Joe C had terrible balance, and my reply was similar to yours. It can't have been that bad, because at that point (pre-Hopkins and Jones) he had only hit the canvas twice in 44 fights.
No fighter is perfect, they all have flaws somewhere, but the proof is in the pudding. Manny never gets knocked down these days. That could change on Saturday, but since Shawn Porter (a bigger guy than Cotto) was offered $1000 if he knocked Manny down, and in many weeks of tough sparring couldn't do it, it's not something I would be particularly worried about.
Manny's balance is fine.

I will not disagree with that post! No matter the outcome, we will be e-boyz, and the winner gets a free vacation in the victors home country!?? LOL...you down?I don't take it seriously in the way that I'm offended by anyone suggesting Cotto is the more skilled fighter, it's just opinions at the end of the day, right? I respect the fact that someone feels Cotto is better, because it's entirely possible they are seeing something my own eyes have missed. I'm no expert, and never did I claim to be, but I take boxing talk seriously (in a good way!), period, because it's one of my interests, D. There is still so much I don't know about the sport and I'd be the first to admit that.
I love Cotto. Always have since the very first time I saw him in the ring. I was like "DAMN, who is this guy, he's gonna be a force to be reckoned with!", but to me, Manny is extraordinary. Never in my lifetime (which is not all that short, I'm one of the older guys around here!) have I seen a fighter like Manny.
As you said, and as I said myself, both have advantages, disadvantages and unique skills. I just happen to think Manny edges Miguel overall. Both are brilliant. One is slightly more brilliant. Feel free to disagree, my friend.Comment

Up till now, it hasn't been exposed but look at what happened in the first round of the Clottey fight. Cotto has a very strong jab and no matter how fast Manny can bounce, the jab will always be faster and he's knocked down a guy 20 pounds heavier than Manny on his ass with it. Manny has never seen the kind of jab that Cotto brings into the ring. I'm not trying to say Manny's off-balance attack is a bad thing it obviously works insanely well because its so unorthodox, however, it still doesn't equate to good footwork. When has that so-called off balance been a problem? 16oz gloves with headgear on... I don't think its possible to knock someone out wearing all that no matter how strong you are. Not taking anything away from Porter or Manny but sparring is a whole different game than stepping into that ring with only 8oz of leather between a fist and your face. That's a good point, and one I used in a discussion we had on here about Joe Calzaghe some time ago.
