The fight is at 160, because Williams was training to make 160 for Pavlik. Since he already started training for that weight, they decided to make the fight at that weight. Martinez agreed to it.

Nobody should complain about it helping out one fighter in the ring because Martinez fought his last fight at 157-158. Either that or he had a contracted fight that was scheduled for that weight that got canceled. I can't remember. I've read about this. And from what I've heard, Martinez wanted more money if he was gonna defend his belt at 154. So they made the fight at 160. Neither fighters' fault really. But it does suck that it's a non title fight.

Sergio Martinez was willing to make the weight mostly just for the opportunity and because he's been inactive since his controversial Draw to Kermit Cintron.

I have to believe he's been training all this time. He might be better at 154, but he might still have a chance at 160. He would've been better with some extra weight off, because he needs to keep away from Paul Williams cause Paul is very active in the ring, but opportunities like this don't come often. It's a similar situation to Juan Marquez when he decided to fight Mayweather. At least his got his money worth.

He had a fight scheduled on the Diaz-Malinaggi card that was gonna take place at 157-158. This is well documented.

Williams and his team want an extra advantage. He could make 154 easily.

                  Williams weight last 3 fights:

                  2009-04-11 157 Ronald Wright 159 51-4-1
                  2008-11-29 153½ Verno Phillips 154 42-10-1
                  2008-09-25 157 Andy Kolle 158 17-1-0

If Manny fights for the title why not Martinez. He's had a huge winning streak and it only ended cause of a controversial draw.

Against who? Anyway he looked good against Cintron, but at 160 he has yet to fight consistently. We don't really know how good he might be at that weight.
