Weight was a factor because when you are getting hit by a bigger man it makes no difference if he is trying to dominate you with his technical ability rather than his physically strength, he is still able to hit you harder than most people have hit you in your career, that can change your decision on when to attack, how many chances to take, how much pressure you put on, it can change game plans and tactics, fighters like to go out and establish respect!!! when they fight someone to let them know they cant walk in the front door, but when the guy your fighting is a LW who cant hurt you, thus meaning you can take more liberties and apply more pressure knowing that your punches are!! hurting him because he is not a WW then you start to understand.

That is without talking about how he looked in his recent fights, where he clearly looked like he was starting to slide, still a good fighter but not the fighter he was, add a few pounds, turn him into a fat guy with no speed because of the weight then ..........

Mayweather looked spectacular because of all these intangibles.
good post! Plus Marquez said after the fight that it was the weight

By your logic Floyd could go up to 160 and dominate Kelly Pavlik or Paul Williams when in reality both of those fighters would beat Floyd and send him into retirement. So your logic is flawed.

You can say the size was a factor. JMM was a fighter going up in weight. Mayweather has been use to fighting at 147. Speed played a key role for PBF but it was JMM's first fight at 147 whil PBF has been fighting since late 2005 or early 2006 in the division.

Size played a role for sure but to me speed, skill and style played just as much of a role if not more.

It was a mixture of everything why the fight looked like that.

I will say this though Floyd was always a bigger man then JMM it would have played a role no matter when they fought.

JMM was totally unable to hurt Floyd with the few punches he did land and it was because Floyd is a naturally bigger man able to withstand punches from LWs....this also played a psychological factor as the fight progressed.

i read that same crap in the latest ring magazine in by nigel collins...he said something like: "anybody who knows boxing knows size wasn't a factor."

while it is unprofessional to condescend to your reading audience like that, i will agree that floyd's superior speed was ONE of the keys to the fight...BUT i'd like to see nigel collins get into the ring and take jabs all night from someone who is 10 lbs heavier than him...

JMM simply could never get in range because floud was BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER, and flat out BETTER...

size played a giant factor...but according to nigel collins, i know nothing about boxing...what a douchebag...
