Floyd is better skill without a doubt but he lacks the courage that Ali has. Ali fought the best, gave it all in the ring win or lose.

Floyd has better skills. Ali could only fight at the outside. Floyd can fight inside aswell as outside. Ali never threw bodypunches he always went for the head. Floyd can do both extremily well.

I just think Ali's footwork, reflexes and intelligence is on par if not is better than FLoyds.

ALi relied on his ahtletic abilities mostly to win fights.Take away his athletic talents and he`s a bum unless he learns how to actually box.Mayweather uses skills and his athleticism to win fights but mostly his skill.

People have to understand heavyweight boxing is almost on another level then welter. im not saying the level of heavyweight is on a better level but what im saying is that heavyweights have a different approach then welters.....think about it....frazier stalking bobbing his head low and waiting for you to throw and then he springs up with a reckless left hook or big ass foreman pressuring and just wrecking your body...mayweather wouldve gotten caught eventually too if he was a heavyweight...weight classes come with different styles...ali brought a style to the HW division which was based on power and pressuring....I like mayweathers style his defense is special and some even call it impossible to figure out but i just dont think it wouldve held up in heavyweight..so if i had to compare i would say Ali.

Mayweather's opponents are far in quality from Ali's opponents. I believe that when faced with the same opposition, Ali would still beat the hell out of Mayweather. Mayweather's heart is too weak and it's not just skills that win fights.

Floyd is by far more skilled, is technique is near perfection actually.

But who has Mayweather fought that is off the standard of Frazier?

No one, its not even comparable. Ali was great at boxing off the ropes, moving and jabbing and IMO is the much better offensive fighter and more naturally "gifted"

Mayweather is better defensively and from a technical standpoint but due to the huge difference in quality opposition Ali has proved that his skills hang with the best. Mayweathers skills were better than anyone else he fought at 130-135 but at 147 we just don't know there no use saying "if they fought" because thats opinion. He has to get in the ring with someone who is also considered to have great skill.

Wrong on Ali's elusiveness. Only against the very slow like Liston.
I admit I was wrong there, way wrong. I was thinking of a couple of Mayweather's major wins where he pot-shotted his way to victory.

I've seen all his fights and been impressed by his body punching in the past but somehow my memory was playing tricks on me. It was late at night here so pardon me.

Ali was elusive against more than Liston and Liston was hardly "very slow", he was just made to look slow. Has Mayweather ever fought anyone like Sonny Liston?

Watch Ali against Liston, Patterson, Williams, Terrell... He doesn't get hit at all.

Considering that he is a heavyweight, moving like almost no one I've seen even in lighter divisions, his ability should rate very highly in a pound for pound sense. He was also great at using those abilities to their fullest extent.

I wouldn't say he is more technical than Floyd but he has proven himself the greater of the two by far.

We need to make sure we use pre-prison Ali and not the older past prime one that fought Foreman and Frazier twice. Ali did rely on his athleticism rather than technical skills, so I'd say Mayweather has more skills. Ali had him beat on all the intangibles though.

P4P I think Ali has better skills.

It is not easy to do what Ali, with a weight of over 200 pounds.

Sure, Mayweather does have better skills. But the magic of Ali isn't just what he did, but at the weight he did it.
