i don't have an agenda in my threads. i'm just a messenger, relaying what i read.

i'm not surprised on anything, i just wanted to know what NSB thinks.

sadly, this thread didn't really had an intelligible discussion, much to the bickering of some posters on both sides.

I think Cotto does a wide variety of things well... more so than JMM
To me he's the more well rounded fighter
JMM is more a specialist... but so superior at certain aspects, he's the superior fighter.

I've always said that Marquez was too stationary; it's true.

Cotto probably has more tools and before the Margarito fight he was good and assertive in pretty much all facets. Not so much anymore.

Marquez is better at the tools he does have though.

What makes JMM so special is the fact the guy isn't fast, strong or even has a granite chin, yet has been competitive and even beaten the best pound4 pound fighters of his era.

JMM is pure SKILL. His counter punching is amazing, his timing is impeccable.
He fought Mayweather when he had to go up 2 weight classes and is 36 years old.....I mean come on! And you still want to say he's overrated? Seriously? Yet, I'm the one that is seeing fights through "Mexican goggles".

JMM should have never competed with the likes of Barrera or even Pac but he did. Some say he even beat Pac not once but twice. JMM is not overrated, he is a great fighter who's skill has carried him as far as it has.
Then we are the same age.

Overated by you not in general. Look I think Marquez is a very good fighter, I enjoy watching him and have for many years. Yes he's has a very good skillset but he's not leaps and bounds better than Cotto like you want to make it out to be. I do think Cotto is a better fighter overall but I don't think it's sacrilage for you to think that Marquez is. Like you seem to think

Cotto can do more he's very versatile and has won fights in many different ways. Marquez wins or loses doing what he always does, Cotto can find other ways to win.
