The cash goes to the doctor, to the venue that was rented out, to the trophies (sometimes ams DO get cash instead of trophies or medals), and I'm sure I'm forgetting some other stuff.

Go to any local amateur show. If you don't weigh in to fight and you're not a coach it costs money, usually $10-$15 to watch.

I hope this is not Philly pity?
Residence has a lot to do with how good a fighter becomes. If you have better competition because of the place you reside, it's going to make you better. Better coaches and more knowledgeable people that live in a place, can't hurt either. Philly has had many great fighters come out of there. Just because you haven't heard of many doesn't mean that there aren't any. If you where a true boxing fan you'd be able to name about 5 off the top of your head. You obviously are not. It's fine to ask, but don't start off by disrespecting one of boxings most respected and prestigious fight towns.

Much like the Philly Cheese Steak, people from Philly always think their fighters are the best.

You know, I've been to Tony Luke's in Philly, supposedly one of the best for Cheese Steaks. I wasn't that impressed. But if you talk to someone from Philly, there's nothing in the world better than a Philly Cheese Steak.

I'd imagine Philly fight fans feel the same about their fighters as they do about the cheese steaks. Personally I think their fighters are better than the Cheese Steaks.

Same thing with NY pizza. I grew up on it so it's the best pizza in the world to me. A good friend of mine never tried it. When he did he thought it was overrated. He ate Pizza Hut his whole life so that's what he became accustomed to. When he ate something different he couldn't see what the big deal was. That's understandable; to each his own.

            What an idiot.
How would the venue, doctors, etc. get paid like everyone else said.

And the who is up in here talking **** on philly cheesesteaks. I don't see cheesesteaks comin from anywhere else.
Tony Lukes is ok there are a million places better I could suggest.

Philly is a great boxing town always boxing going on and like people said it's always exciting and great fights to watch on any level.
The Blue Horizon is amazing to watch boxing matches at. I'd rather watch some great little matches there than at MGM or something.

Please do! I'm heading back down to Philly after Christmas. I've been to the big places (Geno's, Pat's, Tony Luke's), looking for something off the beaten path, but still high quality.

Bernard Hopkins isn't much of anything to me either. Good fighters overall, but I had no idea a fighter's residence has anything to do with being a good boxer/fighter. Is this all part PR?
Aside from Frazier you forgot someone else from Philly
