Very good post and very true. PR are boxing fans, the majority, know the sport and will say it like it is. Why you think some PR's are surprised about Tito's choice, because we say it like it is, if Cotto does not have a chance on winning we will say so, simple as that, PR boxers are not God and we know what they can and can't do. Some PR take it to the extreme, but the real boxing fans know what time it is. When Cotto was fighting Marg, I thought he was not going to be able to win the fight, since Marg punching power was great. Now I believe I underestimated Cotto since Marg was cheating (yeah I said it, he cheated), the majority of PR will say it like it is wether people like it or not, we recognize greatness, for instance Pac, he is a great fighter, but I do not think he would be able to handle Cotto's punching power.
Felix Trinidad: Miguel Cotto Will Beat Manny Pacquiao"

I'm from Puerto Rico and what I have always felt was that Cotto was being pushed into being someone he is not. Trinidad was a people's champion, he loved crowds, and was a very outgoing type of champion. With his retirement, Cotto was forced into filling the gap that Trinidad left because there was not another PR champion who could capture the imagination of the fans like he did. That's why I think Cotto seemed bothered with the constant comparisons. Now, there's Lopez and he is similar to Trinidad in the way he carries himself. PR fans like that type of champion. First, it was Gomez, then Trinidad. Now, it seems that Lopez will be the next one in that category if he keeps working hard and developing well.Comment

I'm 100% PRican and I'm picking Cotto to stop many around 8th round. I think he is simply to smart in the ring an knows how to neutrilize speed.
As far as for PRicans piccking Manny, PR are well documented boxing fans in general we like good boxers period. When we see something we like we are not biased in saying this or that guy is a good boxer just because of his ethnicity. My budies and I have fight parties in wich a PRican is fighting someone of another nationality and usually more than one person in the room will pick the other fighter. As a nation we usually support our fighter but we also can recognize good fighter of other nationalities and will support them openly.
On this site we do not have the best representation of PR true boxing fans! yeah I said it!
being honest only Trinidad moved up and faced the absolute best. His prized scalps of Reid, Vargas, and Joppy are enough to make me proud to call him the best. Trinidad was the last great peoples champ before Cotto. Say what you want but nobody stood toe to toe with Trinidad.
