Yeah, I'm beginning to suscribe to the theory that Adamek may have been a bit drained at 175 as well. Nevertheless, it takes a fighter as good as Chad to pitch a near-shutout. It'll be interesting to see if Adamek has further success as he gets more comfortable at heavyweight.

Dawson badly staggered Adamek in the very next round with a counter right hook off of the ropes ( the 11th) and had him retreating when the round came to an end.

You seriously thought Adamek dominated Briggs in the second fight?

Hell, he barely won and got dropped early.

        He outgrew the weight.

Mendoza was a short notice opponent after whoever pulled out, Johnson and Tarver old or not were the best opponents he could get that were willing to fight him.

And the second Briggs fight Adamek got dropped early and eked out that decision.
He needed to move up and did and did well.
I agree that the weight made him stronger, although i wouldn't say that he was drained. The compubox stats at the end of the Briggs rematch indicated the type of energy and stamina that Adamek had (especially that last round) and even after he dropped Dawson, he had the strength to come forward and try to get a knockouts. Oscar, is a good definition of being weight drained. Weight drained is someone who hardly has the energy to move.

It was the tenth if I remember right. I give Chad props for that win, I just think a rematch would be more competitive and I would view Adamek as a live underdog. Just like last time Chad would prove to be the better boxer, but Adamek has that equalizer, which is power. Since Adamek seems to have improved that aspect he may be able to keep Dawson down for the count.

Yes...with Chad up 9-0 or something. And I don't recall the knockdown seeming to hurt him so much, I'd like to watch it again. Either way, he got up and kept doing what he was doing but with a little more caution. And yes, I think a rematch would be more competitive if Adamek is allowed to come in two divisions heavier.

I agree, that was a very close fight. Ive had to watch it at least 10 times. It was on the undercard of Valuev/Barrett.

I just think people are confusing weight drain with bad style match up. Even when Cunningham and Banks boxed Adamek, they gave him massive problems. It wasn't until they traded with Adamek ( which Dawson never did) was when Adamek looked his best.
