It's not just about that really. It's about the fighter's approach. Pacquiao was pretty offensive from the start. Hatton is usually the pressure fighter and the more offensive fighter again his opponents. Cotto might have created some distance and tried wearing Hatton down (ala Mayweather), thus taking longer to KO him.
