Don't ask me, ask Oscar. He landed more and landed at a higher percentage.

how can throwing shots at the wind and missing horribly win you a match?

i gotta say whitaker did land a **** load of jabs though.....but oscar clearly outshined him in a fight both basically gave for the judges to choose.....oscar did it smartly when he saw he couldn't outskill him....

I thought Pea won 7-5 plus a KD. But the decision didn't shock me at all.

The KD was canceled out by a point deduction.

I was trying to remember if there was a deduction. Thanks. Either way, had the old man winning a tight one.

witaker was also deducted a point.....(bs wbc rule for headbutts) which evened out the bs knockdown(oscar tripped on whitakers foot...overhead cam shows that)............and you have to remember, 2 of the judges who scored that fight have a history of hating oscar.......roth and giampa.....

like i said, i thought whitaker wasnt flashy enough, he was content to evade and counter with a single jab......he probably did land more, but oscar didnt seem bothered......i think once he saw he couldnt hit whitaker, he just said **** it, im gonna go to the sugar ray flurries and hope for the best....and it worked.....

incorrect. the first fight did over 700,000 pay-per-view buys, which if I'm not mistaken was a non-heavyweight record at the time.

There's a two-word answer to the thread question:

same here, and agreed with you that Oscar winning was hardly shocking. The common perception seems to be: fight could've went either way, but even if Oscar "deserved" to win, the final scores were too wide.

                    Almost like Floyd-Castillo I, or perhaps even Peter-Toney I.

I totally forgot about the scores - that's probably where the outrage came from. I think even Lederman had it only a one-point win.

I must say, that was quite a performance by Pea. He had looked like crap in his previous bouts.
