As far as the thread title goes, the answer is no. Manny does not possess an authoritative jab, never has and never will.
basically we are saying the same thing, but you guys are using different definitions and semantics.

cotto landed a great jab, but clottey was off balance hence the knockdown.

Clottey moved forward but his feet were momentarily together, therefore he was off balance. He obviously wouldnt have gone down from a jab had he had a foot behind him.

Pac might not have as heavy a jab, but if he timed it right, and threw it hartd, then of course.

jaja. I understand you man. I normally do not post much, but pullcounter is completely off. He does not understand that by ANY means this was not luck. Was clottey off balance, yes. But it was cotto who was able to time him when clottey was off balance (You can see in the replay that as soon as clottey makes an intiation to attack cotto immediately throws the jab, thus timing it perfectly in order to cause the knockdown). There was pure intention by cotto to throw that jab at that SPECIFIC moment in time when clottey attacked since Cotto knew Clottey would be off balance. hat is skill and timing my man. Nothing to do with luck.

Pullcounter will never understand, you explained it to him various times in a moronproof manner, after that if he does not understand oh well, not much you can do

It was not luck at all. Cotto timed the jab specifically at that moment in which Clottey initiated his attack (Cotto KNEW that in that moment Clottey would be off balance, hence why there was no luck involved, it was great skill by cotto to identify that moment and throw his jab). Pullcounter assumes that by Clottey being off balance this is all luck, that is where he is wrong. He is off balance but it takes great skill by cotto to identify that "off balance'' moment and throw the jab.

As to answer the thread, I do not believe pacquiao can do it. First because he does not have an authoritative jab by any means. Second it takes great timing and skill (and TECHNICAL boxing knowledge) in order to throw the jab at the perfect time. Pacquiao is far from being a technical fighter, he is very athletic and skilled, but he definitely lacks the technical side.

                  Clottey was off-balance..

The question should be.."Can Pacquiao Knockdown Alfonso Gomez with a jab like Cotto did?"

                  YES!
