You know Cotto has alot of solid experiences. Cotto has shown his ability to handle Speed/Boxer types (Mosely, Judah, I'm sure many others but for argument sake, I named the recent two).
You also seen Cotto's ability to handle elusive/boxer types (Quintana, Malanaggi)
You seen him box the Puncher/Volume (margaritos)
    Defensive Boxers...(Clotteys) etc...
To say Pac has volume punching...they are right...to an extent...but it seemed to work with DLH, and Hatton, Diaz (recent). Each one with a legitamate reason as to why he was able to "volume punch". De La Hoya could not match the "speed" of his many punches (emaciated)lol, Hatton-with no head movement, and lack of defensive skill who wouldn't want to punch him repeatedly, Diaz slow as molassases. Was Pac a volume puncher in the 2nd JMM fight? Nope. Why? Marquez beat him to the punch...Cotto may possibly produce the same results. Pac will be very hesistant and sparce with his punches because he will be timed, and countered too.
I will say this though...Pac is looking pretty strong these days, so the speed and power in his punch will be very crucial. I don't see Pac whipping out three or four punch combos like he did in my other examples.
    Just a thought.
I totally agree. Sure Pacman has some speed and pop but he has showed it against some not so great opposition. Cotto is a prime Welterweight with very good timing, just ask Mosley. Pacman is going to be timed which will hold him back and which point i can see him back peddling. Were not going to see Manny being as aggressive as we've seen in previous fights. Pacman will be forced to box.

So it seems like we've got more people agreeing with me than disagreeing. I shouldn't be surprised. It's funny how most of the experts are picking Pacquiao, but it seems like alot more hardcore boxing fans are going with Cotto. Interesting...

                  Catch weight of 145 lb

SIZE gives Cotto an advantage. Fighting almost all his life within the 135- to 147-lb level makes him comfortable at this weight. Even at a catch weight of 145, Cotto knows how to use his size and heft. Remember, a good big boxer is expected to beat a similarly good but smaller boxer. This is because a heavier punch can end a fight at anytime.

Cotto is expected to make the weight easily and bulk up to a comfortable 152 to 155 on fight day. The challenge is to get used to the weight and generate enough speed to match Pacquiao’s.

Pacquiao is just as comfortable. He has proven that even at 145 lb, he is able to maintain his speed and his power. His destruction of Oscar de la Hoya was proof of that. However, Pacquiao might not bulk up as much as Cotto on fight day, thus still giving away several pounds.

                    Height and reach

STANDING at only five-foot-seven, Cotto is relatively short for a welterweight. He only stands half an inch over Pacquiao. Both fighters have a 67-inch reach, thus making these variables fairly even.

Given the speed factor though, these numbers will clearly work for Pacquiao as it will be very easy for him to reach Cotto. When they throw simultaneous punches, Pacquiao will definitely connect.

                      Age

WHEN Pacquiao fought de la Hoya, a lot of experts pointed out that de la Hoya was too old for Pacquiao. He was visibly slower and sluggish and that was attributed to age. Cotto is 28, two years younger than Pacquiao and is obviously at the apex of his physicality. This is the first time in a long while that Pacquiao will be facing a boxer younger than him. The difference might not be much but Cotto is expected to be in good condition, not to tire easily and to take punches better.
