Why does everybody say old school boxers are automatically better than this age's boxers? Some say because they had stamina for 15 rounds...since the fights were 15 rounds, well thats bull****! If our fighters fought for 15 rounds they too would have the stamina for the 15 rounds.

probally because they fought 100-200 fights..even tho alot of those fights were against the same person or random cab drivers..they fought more because they made less..so people overate alot of old school fighters and act like its impossible for a modern day fighter to be ranked ahead of them

I know its a bunch of B.S I had this argument with some guy at work about who was the true al time great and he kept saying how Ali could K.O any of this times boxers, and at the end he admitted he knew nothing about Ali and never seen any of his fights.

It works both ways. Some people automatically dismiss old school fighters just because they're old school.tonysoprano likes this.

It really depends on the fighter more than era IMO. So many fighters back then fought injured, rolled over easily and fought just to get a payday. For a bit more cash they would roll over also. Records back then were not scrutinized like they are today. A loss meant nothing to them.
Right now Floyd gets no respect at all. 20 years from now he will be seen as an all time great by everyone!!. Todays fighters in the modern area 1980's till now, will get more respected years down the road.Last edited by deanrw; 10-26-2009, 09:51 AM.

but old school boxing was alot more easy to understand..less weight classes,1 champ per division..which means to jump divisions you had to REALLY jump divisions..and if you wanted a belt you had to beat the BEST...so there is a reasonable arguement there..nowadays there are so many belts and weightclasses are only 5 pounds apart..its not hard to jump weight classes and knock off the weakest link to get a title

Not better skilled but more heart and will. People in general were much harder back in the day. Those guys had real fights back then and lots of them. How do you think Floyd would do if he had to fight 3 time in 2 weeks against world ranked fighters? Fighting 15 or 20 rounds with 6 ounce gloves on?
