I didn't have to go 30 years to find one, I went with the most extreme example. Too bad that the other fighter didn't know how to hold and he was hurt but not as you described, he was saying something to the ref at the stoppage.
These stoppages save far more fighters from serious injuries than they do epic comebacks. The fact you've had to go back 30 years for an example of an epic comeback should tell us just how rare it is.
He wasn't defending himself his head was getting snapped back, he ate about 25 clean punches without throwing back and was wobbling around like a tube man on a windy day. His eyes wasn't on Bentley either he was slumped forward looking at the floor and literally fell back into the ropes after the ref dived in
It is rare now because now they are more keen to stop a fight. Look at Wardley/Parker and Wood/Conlan, if the ref would had gotten in on those fights when the fighters were hurt they would had been stopped.
I want to make clear that I do not like when a fighter gets gravely injured in the ring, this a risk they take.Comment
