Comments Thread For: Moses Itauma, despite comparisons to Mike Tyson, is his own man

The meteoric rise of young heavyweight Moses Itauma has drawn comparisons to that of Mike Tyson ? but he also carries none of the chaos that came with it.

Mike Tyson already had unified the belts at age 21. People need to realize how special his meteoric rise was.

Itauma has fallen short of that already and there’s no shame in that. He should concentrate on being his own man and forging his isn legacy.

There has never been a more easier time to gain a Heavyweight title, and? For whatever reason Frank Warren and Queensbury boxing have in my opinion stalled Moses Itauma's attempt at becoming a World Champion.

I think they know? That he needs much more development. Seriously? Fighting Jermaine Franklin who has not done anything in the Heavyweight Divisions for many years. Is not optimal preparation for a World title fight.

Way back in 2023 Anthony Joshua was being criticised for fighting, the best version of Jermaine Franklin ever 'after Jermaine Franklin pushed Dillian Whyte in a competitive fight over 12 rounds. For the first time in his professional boxing career, he was able to train full-time as a fighter'.

Note: Jermaine Franklin weighed in at 257 pounds vs. Dillian Whyte compared to 234 pounds vs. Anthony Joshua.

Anthony Joshua after his lost vs. Oleksandr Uysk II 'beat Franklin easy without getting out of second gear. It was not seen as a fight preparing Joshua for a World title, it was merely just a ticking over fight'.

That is why the comparison with Mike Tyson in my opinion, really is not worthy right now for Moses Itauma 'he is a talented fighter. But he has not been in a high jeopardy fight yet in his professional career'.

All of Moses Itauma's fights have been manufactured in way, so the likely-hood of him winning is off the charts 'both from a stylistically and physiological perspective'.

Jermaine Franklin is not a power puncher, he is not a super gifted defensive fighter 'he is a solid fighter, but he has pretty much disappeared from heavyweight boxing after fighting Anthony Joshua'.

This could be another Dillian Whyte situation for Itauma i.e. he gets another get win, which looks great for highlights 'but skill for skill, I don't think it is doing much for his development as a heavyweight contender'.

To conclude: I suppose the real work if happening in the gym, in-between fights 'hopefully that is the case. But? Does anyone know who Moses Itauma has apparently beaten up in sparring? He definitively did not dominate Anthony Joshua or Fabio Wardley, as Ben Davidson stated that he would not allow Itauma to spar those fighters'.

Overall Moses Itauma is a talent fighter, clearly better than many of Great Britain's domestic heavyweight fighters 'but I am still slightly dubious of how his team are managing his career' etc.

        Has there?

Mike Tyson beat Trevor Berbick, Bone Crusher Smith and Tony Tucker to win his Heavyweight titles. Then Spinks for The Ring.

Today's Heavyweight Champions are Oleksander Usyk and Fabio Wardley.

Beating Usyk is infinitely more difficult than beating Berbick, Smith and Tucker, that's for sure.

Absolutely NO comparison between Tyson and Itauma whatsoever. Not in style, not in shape, not in height, not in personality, not in path taken to contendership, not in anything imaginable.

Seeing how good he's been so far, If say he beats everyone now, with the exception of Usyk and Fury. And who's to say he doesn't spark them as well.

But yes, don't hype him up too much, but he's certainly clearly a better boxer than Jared Anderson, whom they overhyped.

I was about to say the same.
Tyson had 26 fights to Berbick & his first belt in 586 days.
Moses us on 2 a year under the self serving wing of old fish eyes.
              There's absolutely positively zero comparison.

I don't see any comparison at all, stylistically, between Moses & Mike Tyson. The comparison I always see, in terms of hand speed, fluidity & combination punching, is with Dynamite Dokes, but Michael Dokes was an alcoholic & a drug addict. I hope Moses is neither.
