Comments Thread For: Unforgettable: You were a hell of a fighter, Nick Blackwell
Ten years ago, you defended your British middleweight title against Chris Eubank Jnr, not that you need reminding. Every day since has been a reminder...

Was such a shame he decided to spar again after his injury, like he came out of it the first time pretty unscathed and seemed totally fine afterwards which was amazing but the yearn to box again got to him and obviously caused the second brain injury and he didn’t bounce back aswell that time and you could see the effects mentally the second injury caused and still causes. Guy was young and he could have done anything else even stayed in boxing to train/coach guys but not being able to box himself was obviously very hard on him and he made that mistake that caused him more damage that he didn’t need to take.
First fighter to give Saunders absolute hell. I liked how he always had this cheeky smile in the ring; now there was a fighter who really loved fighting. Could've had great wars with Murray, DeGale, Groves, Saunders rematch, maybe even a world title shot if he had gone in a different direction to the Eubank fight.
Respect to Blackwell, real tough fighter who always came to fight. That Eubank bout was hard to watch, but it showed the kind of heart he had. Shame how things turned out after, but he gave everything in the ring. hot games
His trainer should have lost his licence. The referee was also completely out of his depth. The only reason Blackwell survived at all was that CES told CEJ to stop punching his head. It was a shameful situation, all told, but the Eubanks alone came out with credit. I'm sorry, I've got no sympathy for him now. To resume sparring after specifically being told you could never do that again was beyond idiotic, it verged on criminal & it put the young lads he sparred in an impossible situation.
