Eric Raskin questions how much leeway we should give boxers like Ryan Garcia when they continually misbehave.

It's hard to wonder when Ryan will "mature" at this point. He's got a kid. Had/has a wife. Yet he's still very immature and wants to play victim at times when his shenanigans get too crazy. Goes and blames the mental health aspect. Sounds like another Kanye West.

I think part of this is just the way he's developed in life. He's been connected to social media for so long, the comments take a toll on his mental and he doesn't know how to handle it since he's always connected in some way. Or around folks that probably only hang with him for the fame around him and wanting to be apart of that. Not a true friend you can open up to and explain your feelings to. Then when I see him around his father, his father looks almost like a friend around the fame of his own son. He's happy to just be apart of it and lets his son dictate things. How can Ryan open up to his pops then if his pops behaves like a fan of his?

There are millions of people in this country that struggle with mental health issues and most of them aren't horrible excuses for human beings like Ryan Garcia is. Just because you have mental health issues doesn't mean you're not responsible for your own actions. All you're doing by trying to give Ryan a free pass is increasing prejudice against legitimately good people who struggle with these issues.

It was never mental illness. Ryan Garcia has always been a scumbag as a person this was evident as a teenager and became even more glaring in his adulthood. A cheater in his profession, a deadbeat at home, a complete and utter clown every time he opens his mouth in front of a camera. He's so unlikable that I almost can't dislike him. Think Charlie zelanoff combined with Gordon Ryan. A complete POS. Who doesn't deserve an article either!

I have a very close family member that suffers from mental (emotional) illnesses, and at times their attitude can come off as being a jerk. The truth is 95% of the time she is the sweetest person in the world, but when anxiety/panic hit she simply cannot control it.

I know we live in a world where as we diagnose and discover more issues many feel as if we are just justifying bad behavior. That because something has a name we just write it off as being allowed and we have to just accept it. But thats not the case- we are simply trying to understand the root causes and help people feel better and act in a more acceptable way. That being written we have to understand for some people, the issues they suffer from are beyond their control at times. You certainly wouldn't yell at someone with Downs-Syndrome because they are incapable of learning at a level on par with most of their peers- with mental illnesses like these it can be the same way. That doesnt mean we don't work with them to try and be better, but it means that the standard expectations may not always come through, and you may have to find different methods.

The fact that Cringe Garcia has mental problems should not give him the right to cause others to have mental problems.

Do you sincerely think Cringe Garcia would be the sweetest person in the world if he didn't have mental issues?

He's unprofessional; he's a cheat; he's got no class. And ultimately he's not all that good at boxing. There was a time when he seemed promising/exctiing as a fighter, but with all the negative aspects -- particularly the cheating -- I just want him to disappear now.

Dunno, but I dont want people to diminish the issues he may be dealing with due to mental health issues.
