I'd caution the people who thought JP would not be competent that it
It's just an extension of the same idea that JP has no ability and that nothing was accomplished by AJ.
But if there wasn't such ridiculous reaction to where JP comes from, and his path to boxing, then it could simply be described as "Former HW champ goes back to drawing board to defeat popular club fighter."
JP had a one night only chance to catch AJ in this scenario, really a couple round window. He took some chances and unraveled. It was a fun event in my opinion.
So what AJ went some rounds - in a normal situation for a comebacking fighter off a KO, where was put down 4 times and never in the fight... that'd be looked as POSITIVE. To get his sea legs back under him, take a couple punches, etc....and not only that, he tracked down a much faster fighter.
I watched a couple of HW fights last night and they were all stuck in the mud. JP has excellent footspeed - is it all rounded into an all around top level figher? No - but he has some attributes that could have been developed more in another timeline. He fought like an inexperienced , poor man's David Haye who also had issues with his gas tank earlier in his career, collapsing around 8th round -it's a taxing style, not efficient and obviously JP lacks experience in how to manage fights.
But please, name the HW fighters who AJ can fight who will move better than that?
It's not going to be Fury, who I've always been a fan of from the very early. Fury can move for a big guy, but he's still a big guy. A big target - and moving and being defensive at his age isn't going to get easier, it will get harder.
Unlike Fury, AJ did not come close to a) being KOed by a club guy b) losing on the cards to club guy. AJ did not show up out of shape and full of hubris like Fury did. AJ then easily KOs the guy Fury had his hands full with. And last night, he his time and got a W, back to the drawing board from his perspective - and did so with a new team in his corner. The same team with 2 victories over Fury.
Have we heard a peep from Fury yet? I don't think anything has changed in his mind after Saturday, he will always remember the sparring sessions 10 years ago where he told Bunce "AJ hits like a MULE" - it's always going to be in the back of his mind.
Really unfortunate to see all the boxing axioms getting thrown out the window when it comes to JP, it's really annoying. I saw people saying styles don't make fights, that AJ didn't need to be at his best, that training and having pro bouts means nothing, they absolutely lost their minds over this guy. . Those rules should always apply.
Anyway, Hearn said in interview with Froch that AJ wants to go on a real run again. It sounds like 3 fights at least. Ground level with JP, maybe he does the Cassius Chaney fight that was originally scheduled... then Okolie and then we'll see if Fury. It'd be credible again by that point to me.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 12-21-2025, 05:56 PM.👍 3Comment

That's one bleak assessment. Love it.Boxing has its own dinosaurs, and though you may close your eyes and picture them in their primes – AJ stopping Klitschko, Fury crushing Wilder, etc. – those versions of both fighters are long gone. All we’re left with are giant fossils.

Lot of jealousy towards Jake for doing what they wish they could
The people who said JP would not be competent will come back out of the woodworks and loudly make the same mistake they did before Saturday,

Yeah, he put some work in, he is not on the level of a world class Cruiser more like a pretty good amateur fighter but made alot more money than some really great fighters.Comment

What an absolutely ridiculous article.
Paul Butler went 11 rounds with prime Naoya Inoue. Did that mean Inoui "Wasn't all that vastly superior than" than Butler? No, of course not. Butler went 11 rounds with the vastly superior Monster because he never, at any point in the fight, tried to win it. His only focus was to keep as far away from Inoue as he possibly could, without actually jumping out of the ring.
Jake Paul got to the 6th round against AJ for the same reason. He wasn't trying to win, he was simply trying to avoid getting stopped, by whatever means necessary, including throwing himself to the canvas and trying to drag AJ down with him multiple times.Last edited by kafkod; 12-21-2025, 06:35 PM.👍 2Comment

I'm not interested in Fury-AJ; I believe they are both past their due by date. It would be a massive match in the UK, but elsewhere....nah. AJ proved to his US audience that after a smack down by Ruiz and a poor performance vs a youtuber that he's not a draw and not that interesting to watch fight. (I know the Paul sold by not because of AJ). And Fury is a fat slob with a big mouth. He's past his best.Comment

The only thing Jake competed with AJ at was who had the worst taste in jewellery.
Those crass, garish neck chains they were wearing were an affront to the eyeballs.Comment
