Agreed...he needs to fight one of the champions next i.e. Ramirez or Jack. Jack's 42yo and Opetaia has a habit of beating up old champs i.e. Breidis plus it means that the winner of the Ramirez-Benavidez fight can face him next for all the marbles.
Benavidez vs. Opetaia is a 50-50 fight in my opinion (like Bivol vs. Beterbiev) and would be fireworks plus David actually has the BALLS to fight him.Last edited by HisExcellency; 12-06-2025, 12:25 PM.👍 1Comment

Exactly! That's why Zurdo acted like he didn't know who Opetaia is. Also, If Jai was an easy mark, Benavidez would've called him out taken the belt and went for a bigger money fight unifying against Zurdo. The fear amongst fighter is real, they seem to prefer to take the long way and detours to get to Opetaia. Now will Jai be able to make the pay like Crawford did throughout his career, the jury is still out on that one. Like I said, the fear is real. I just hope Jai isn't avoided till he gets close to 40 like Beterbiev.Opetia is a scary guy! Even though he's pretty much only fighting cans it's the manor in which he's dispatching of them that's most important. I wouldn't be exaggerating by saying I momentarily thought he killed 2 of his last 3 opponents after the final punch was rendered. His victims just seem to lie motionless for a unhealthy amount of time.Comment

Opetaia makes absolutely no sense for Benavidez. The Ramirez fight barely makes any sense and only because its mexican day and two fighters who have mexican fanbase besides that Bneavidez needs and will concrntrate on 175.

However Ramirez definetly ducking Opetaia but maybe he saw this fight today and saw what i thought everyone else saw as well. A horrible performance from Opetaia not clean and sharp as we use to know him.
He fights any world class fighter like he did today and he will lose and probably even get hurt, this guy landed on Opetaia way to often and even hurt him. Something was really off with Opetaia or we might overrated him but lets wait everyone can have a bad day in the officeComment

Shltty situation for Jai since he’ll get no praise for knocking these guys out, and sometimes when opposition is way inferior it’s hard to show your best. I agree a change of promotion is a good option now. If he can’t get the other ‘champs’ he needs to get more credible opponents somehow. Lot of people forget how good Breidis was, but it’s true Jai’s record is getting thinner and thinner and those fights feel like a long time ago nowComment

Off Night? Opetaia looked poor and not sharp at all. Yes his opponent was akward and presented kind of an puzzle but Opetaia got hit clean and rushed in smothering his own work like Brian Norman against Haney.
If Opetaia shows up like this against Ramirez i would pick Ramirez if he shows up like this against Benavidez he will get punished. However i think this was a bad night and if he comes back like we usually know him he should be a clear favorite against Ramirez (fight will not happen). But i still think Benavidez vs Opetaia is a true 50/50 fight and i would also give Beterbiev chances especially since Opetaia gets hit and seems quite vulnerable he was hurt in this fight also his face tends to bruise up quickly and he already got his jaw broken.
In retroperskective we might overrated Opetaia a bit due to the super weak competition at Cruiserweight even Ramirez looks like an unstoppable force at Cruiser and Badou still managed to get a title at his age way past his prime and a weight which is not his natural he was not even big at 175.
I can see guys like Yarde or Callum Smith even Buatsi move up and have some success there (but not beating Jai).
I do not think he is overrated. I think he needs to be challenged. What was there about this fight that forced him to be sharp? Sometimes, competitors look the sharpest against the toughest opposition.
At least, I hope so because this guy has looked like he is the real deal.Comment

Do not underestimate how big Fat Dave is. His cruiser trip could be a perma moveOpetaia makes absolutely no sense for Benavidez. At only 22 years of age in early 2019 Fat Dave was already heavier than Bivol who walks around at 185
Fat Dave last self-confirmed walk around weight when fit was 205
Will likely add muscle for cruiser
+ We know he isnt the most disciplined guy outside of the ring and has off-seasons
the new Fat Dave’s fit walk around weight could be 210 215
walk around 210 could he still make 175 that’d be a 35 pound weight cut nvm 215 or 40
Parker’s Cousin Buff Guy Jai is to Fat Dave what Top Soviet was to Saul. A step too far
I fancy Fat Dave’s chances against Fat Gilbert and Buff Guy Artur
athletic movers Top Soviet Bivol and Parker’s Cousin Buff Guy Jai no noLast edited by SouthpawRight; 12-06-2025, 07:28 PM.Comment

Buff Guy Jai would be wise to stay at cruiser for as long as he can
he already getting hurt at this smaller weight by randoms
I dont believe he has an iron chin nor is he pure box
heavies would put him downComment

Opetaia should try to get the winner of Badou Jack vs Mikaelyan, then wait for the winner of Zurdo vs Benavidez.Comment
