You’re gonna’ sit there and tell me that him knocking Askren and Woodley out wasn’t generating enormous views? I’m not saying they were elite boxers, but let’s keep it objective…could you see any other celebrity/social media influencer (that’s what Jake Paul is essentially, right?) out there deciding to lace them up for the first time and within two/three years producing those same results? I don’t think so necessarily.
From Michael Winkler’s book “Grimmish” can also apply: “Anybody can learn to box. But to fight is different.”
You can have trained and learned how to box and know the movements and what to do. But what good is it (outside of exercise) if you don’t have the mental make-up of a fighter or at the very least gumption to believe you can actually get in there and exchange punches? At the very least Jake Paul has had far more success than anybody ever expected when he first started this several years ago.
I mean, really? Did anybody look at Jake in his first fight (the one where he looks two weight classes lower and is wearing headgear) and say to themselves, “This guy could flatten Askren, Woodley, knock down and beat Silva, Diaz, and most likely shutout Chavez, Jr.”
I guarantee nobody would’ve thought that. Not a single poster here. In fact, if somebody had brought up Tank Davis in his first fight, everybody would’ve been saying Tank starches him. Six years forward, he signs to fight Tank (in an exhibition mind you because that’s what most likely PBC inserted as insurance), all of a sudden Paul is being a bully, which means subconsciously they don’t think Paul is a doormat anymore. He’s decent enough. Not a hall of famer, not a champion…an anomaly at the very least that’s polarizing and is moving the needle in a major way regardless of what the establishment thinks of him.
I like the dude. He don’t think he’s a “fly by” participant. I think he actually is into the fight scene which is why he hasn’t just sat back and been a fighter and nothing more. He’s made his own promotional company and made Serrano her biggest paydays. Good for him.Last edited by TintaBoricua; 12-04-2025, 07:28 AM.👎 1Comment

Ummmm......
Askren and Woodley are not boxers.
There is no kicking and wrestling in boxing
Kicking and wrestling is what they do best.
You're giving the cvnt more credit than he deserves, hence, not being objective.
It's more of a case where his dumb as dirt FOLLOWERS pay for his GARBAGE with some equally ignorant boxing fans who will pay for anything.....
He is young and in good shape and knows enough about "fight" to make it up to this point.
Thanks to a very well managed road.
Take away his notoriety and we are not having this discussion.
He would probably be an apprentice mechanic in some dirt road mid west town

I know they’re not even boxers to begin with, but it’s kind of head-turning that he would fight these guys at all so early. Look, we’re going in circles here.

Jake Paul is not going into the hall of fame as a boxer. Got it.
Jake Paul is not a world class fighter. Got it.
Jake Paul without notoriety means not having this discussion to begin with. Got it.
But he DOES have it for better or for worse. And anybody here on boxing scene would take that opportunity to get the bag.
Jake…whatever he—THAT—is as an attraction is for some reason or another getting people riled up one way or another and it translates to dollars. Can’t hate him for people being gullible enough to shell out for his events.
For the record, I have never purchased a single one of his PPV fights. And no, I don’t expect him to beat AJ. And also no, I won’t be crying/upset when he gets starched on fight night. You’re not talking with a fan, you’re talking to a guy who enjoys the atmosphere and the buzz.

Boxing is worse off with him and his scripts and rules and choice of opps.

I'm sure his fight with AJ will have a script of some kind.
Talent should be the key to success, not (anti) social media notoriety
I will be back here to eat crow if there is no script and AJ is allowed to swing for the bleachers
