Has anybody ever seen the real James Toney? I mean the guy behind this act, because clearly the ****y narcissist that he's been playing his whole career can't be the real man behind the gimmick.

A lot of these Americans who adopt these personas are obviously hurt little boys underneath and I don't mean that disrespectfully. Roy Jones was physically abused by his father who hit him with various objects. The egotistical persona is a construct to mask something they (wrongly) feel shame about.

You're probably right. Although with Roy Jones he has calmed down over the years and you can certainly see the real guy(and he seems like a decent person).

I'm amazed Toney can still keep this gimmick up into middle age. I still haven't seen him crack and show his real self.

Toney was a skilled fighter but he was his own worse enemy. He sabotage his own career with getting so heavy between fights and sloppy training habits.

He would not have KOed Tyson, Stewart said consistently that his hands were too small to affect heavier fighters. Him stopping an old Holyfield is not a barometer in how he would had done against Tyson.

              Right now?
              NAHH.

That would be sad to watch now. I mean I can't hate on people making money though.

He was one of my favorite fighters. He would sit in the pocket, not get hit and counter. On top of that he had a granite chin and good power. His fight against Jirov is the clear example when he was disciplined.

I'd give him a reasonable chance against tyson, he had an absolute cast iron chin and definitely wouldn't have been intimidated against Mike.
