He could have stopped it with no complaints, is the point. If you are out on your feet, not throwing back and not realty defending yourself for an extended period of time you can't complain if a referee steps in and stops it. Your life is in his hands.

If the ref wants to let it go and you end up surviving and winning then great but if he stops it in that scenario then you can't complain about it.
well, there is not fighting effectively back but there is also avoiding punches, punches not landing clean & your opponent punching themselves out to consider also

If you are rocked, out on your feet for an extended period of time, like 1 minute or more, and the ref steps in, you can't complain about it.

It's just that simple. The ref is in charge of a fighters safety, in a sport where people die. You can't expect a ref to just stand there and wait for a guy to get badly hurt.

one of his options i presume was a standing count as parker was standing with his hands up

this is what happened to good ole nigel benn who was far more out of it than parker in that tragic fight but as well as saving benn the ref doomed gerald

You're again inserting another refs discretion. That's not an argument.

If the ref wants to let it go on, that's on that ref. That ref could have stopped that Benn fight also. Couldn't have complained.

But you can't blame a ref for stopping a fight in that scenario, it's just that simple. Same goes for Parker.

If you don't want to get stopped on your feet in that scenario, when you've been rocked, when you're stumbling, when you're looking at the floor, when there's 20+ punches flying your way whilst badly hurt, you take a knee or you hold, if you don't then there's every chance a ref steps in there.

well i would be if i was parker, if i was standing there hands up and punches not landing clean and as far as i remember looking at my opponent at the time of the stoppage i would be angry, yes im gassed and hurt but im also winning the fight with one round to go if i can get out of this round & i also immediately switch my eyes to the ref after the stoppage if i remember right, i cant agree with u on this one, parker may have been about to clinch or take a knee or may have weathered the worst or he may have taken a direct hard shot

You can do whatever you want.

However logically speaking, you can't. Being saved by the bell the previous round, immediately rocked the following round and shipping 20+ punches while wobbling around and looking at the floor, you can't blame a ref for stopping a fight when fighters actively die.

Joe Parker already accepted the defeat and said the better fighter won. Can we move on now? Just like Joe has?

Seems like a lot of people in the know, were foreshadowing referee controversy the moment that Howard Foster was assigned the bout.

It's curious how boxing fans are more upset by the stoppage than Parker was himself.

It's bizarre why Parker would even take this high risk fight vs Wardley when he had the $10-20m plus payday vs Usyk in his pocket, and much more if he beat Usyk.

Makes you wonder if Parker will get a percentage of what Wardley will get for Usyk?
