Good article. I've been preaching this very point for a long time. I swear I've heard everyone including the fighters and trainers themselves saying that ****** "Weight classes exist for a reason" and "A good big man always beats a good little man" ... The problem is this is said and then casuals get a hold of those words and you have every Tom, ****, and. Harry saying it and the truth gets lost in translation. It's never ever been true. It's a factor of course but by no means is there any basis to believe this is the case. If it were we wouldn't have any two and three and four division champions and Tyson Fury would never have lost his title to a former cruiserweight. This nonsense will perpetually be repeated nevertheless the next time we have a fighter moving up. It'll lead to the next asinine boxing saying everyone says but doesn't understand the meaning to "swim without gettin' wet" I wish to God Nazeem had never said this to Bernard because now we have to many idiots running around repeating it like they're some boxing genius.
BUD proved me wrong , he was able to put on weight that turned out to be to his benefit .I hope that doesn't start a landslide of smaller fighters moving up Bud caught Canelo right as we all know he's not the fighter he was BUT maybe Bud would beat a prime Canelo we won't know .Bud is older at 37 but is not as shopworn as Canelo .I was impressed how Bud was still sharp and won the final rounds , there's no point in a rematch.I agreed with the judges scoring at 113-115 . I've always been a Bud guy ever since his fight with Ricky Burns all those years ago and would love for him to retire with all that Money and enjoy.
The thing I did not see mentioned anywhere, Canelo is arguable a very small Super-Middle Weight in terms of height.. He and Bud is the same height, or Bud maybe an inch taller. It's not the same as moving up and having a reach disadvantage. It was a way more even fight that everyone put it out to be in terms of size...

i agree in this case it was way overblown on canelo size he is not Dmitry Bivol who is a true 168lb guy . i dont think Crawford will fight anybody else but canelo the other 168lb fighters are just to big for him even at 160lb Crawford will have to pick the right guys to fight

No matter how you spin it, Canelo is the much bigger fighter. Canelo has fought as high as 175. Crawford has never fought above 154. Crawford started his career as lightweight.
Boxing is based on weight. All of the talk about reach and height doesn't equate to them being the same size or even close. Height and reach is irrelevant.

With Crawford adding a lot of muscle in the year since his last fight, can he not become as strong and big as Canelo when they have the same height? People were talking about Canelo being this massive guy, but he is quite a small guy that himself has gone up in weight-classes, and a bit to far, as seen when he was dominated by Bivol (and by Kovalev for most of their fight). Canelo is naturally a 160lb fighter at max.
