Haha Yeah, I just wish some of these guys fought in a more fan friendly style. Scull really embarrassed himself versus Canelo. Enough boxing fans already have the unfortunate impression that Cuban fighters are boring. But most of the newer guys like Robeisy Ramirez, David Morrell and Osleys Iglesias are working to change that misconception. Always hard to predict the future of a fighter — impossible, really — but Osleys is looking as promising as they come.
You Cuban mofos sure do produce more than your fair share of quality fighters…EVEN the marathon runner Scull was a world champion!
PS: Iglesias is gonna be a REAL problem…Cuban amateur style, confident, dynamite in his fists and throws punches from all angles with a lot of torque and leverage.Comment

Diego connecting with right hand counter on Marshmallow Mexican DavidJust watched the fight...Iglesias is very impressive but I don't think he's got the skills to trouble Canelo. Anyhow, he's one of 3 talented contenders (along with Sheeraz & Mbilli) who can all BANG (and to a lesser extent Pacheco). Hopefully they all face each other soon.
David left hand technique makes him open for rights over the top. We'll see if he improves upon this when he faces Buff Guy Yarde
Prefer Osleys style to David
I was gonna say exactly the same thing — Iglesias is a problem. He’s big, skilled, disciplined and possesses power. I’ve been high on Morrell for years, and had Osleys in my peripherals, but I’m now thinking the latter could be even more promising. It’s been said that Iglesias beat David in the amateurs, and I can see why. Anyway, here’s another guy to watch — and further proof that the Cuban School isn’t inherently boring.
Osleys is higher ring iq and boxes
David wanted to be big ick and stand in the pocket with swarmer Benavdiez

Cuban style evolution for pro boxing is a work in progress

sooner or later there'll be a Cuban who finds the optimal balance between defense and offense
last gen was too defensive Rigo Erislandy
current gen Cuban David wants to be big ick and brawl

Iglesias kept Shishkin at the end of his punches. Shishkin contributed to his demise by not going under some of those punches and going straight back, also after his offense he just stood in front of him. Iglesias looked good and really starts punching when he goes to his right.Comment

Yeah, from what I’ve observed so far, I tend to agree. Osleys looks very disciplined in there. Not afraid to use his power, but not over-eager either.

Yeah Iglesias is a KO artist and has a very fan friendly style (as does Morrell). The thing that impressed me most was that despite being fairly lean, he throws every punch with bad intentions and puts a lot of leverage and torque on his shots (as do most KO artists e.g. Golovkin, Tank, Inoue etc). Although I think Canelo would be a step too far for him (due to his iron chin, experience and superior boxing IQ), he MIGHT be the next best guy in the division.

I hope he ends up fighting either Sheeraz or Mbilli next as somebody's '0' has got to go (probably by KO).Comment

Come on dude that was more like a slap
Pacheco is a solid contender though but definitely not as good as Sheeraz, Mbilli or Iglesias. I think he gets sparked by any one of them.Comment

Iglesias reminds me a bit of Hamzah Sheeraz, and the way he delivered his blows against Berlanga — lots of torque, really turning into his punches. Osleys has the size to easily move up in weight. Very lean, athletic build. I really like his poise in the ring; and the active, methodical way he goes about his work. He’s one to watch, for certain.
