Commey lost to Lomachenko, Teofilo and Ramirez, drew with Pedraza and beat Marinez. I recall Marinez rinsed Rolly and was rinsed by corrupt or incompetent judges, so that doesn’t look a bad win. Obviously, at his age, Commey is near the end of his career, but he had some very hard fights at a high level. If he drops down a couple of levels he could put together a run of wins and maybe get one last title shot or a big ‘pension’ fight.
To be honest, I can’t see any hope for Sadam Ali’s comeback. This is one of all too many examples of a boxer saying’I have unfinished business’ but the business is saying’no, we done’.
You know it's a slow week in boxing when the list-topper is Sadam Ali.
I got nothing against the guy, but I just don't feel the energy to make the effort to plan around his fight.
Maybe because we're in the dog days of August now, or maybe because I just can't seem to care.
It also doesn't help that Canelo/Crawford is but a fortnight away and the 154 cauldron is starting to bubble with dynamite possibilities.
I attribute Munguia's relevance to Cotto's surprise loss to Ali. Cotto wasn't supposed to lose that fight and the result left Ali with the WBO strap. Ali was supposed to fight Liam Smith but Smith had an allergic reaction that forced him out of the fight and Munguia got the late minute opportunity (after being denied an opportunity to fight GGG).
Ali was dwarfed in the ring by Jamie and was beaten pillar to post by the Mexican brawler. From then on, Munguia was navigated to keep his title and his undefeated record until he ultimately got the Canelo fight six years later....
