At one point I was really high on Buatsi and said he’d definitely be a world champion. I loved how calm and composed he seemed in the ring. Somehow it hasn’t worked out. I think he is too composed and thoughtful, it just seems he can’t be in the moment and just let his hands go. I remember the great Manny Steward didn’t like Lennox playing chess because, he said, it made him want to think through everything and a boxer doesn’t have time to think. I don’t think that was true of Lennox, or if it was he resolved it, but I think it is true of Joshua. He is always wanting more time than a good opponent will give him. Although Buatsi came from a poor background he was very respectable, did well at school and went to university. I don’t think he has had many street fights in his life. In most areas you would see that as positive, but in boxing maybe not. He just seems to lack spontaneity and the ability to just flow.

Buatsi should move away from Virgil Hunter. He's only got worse since joining up with him.

Buatsi needs to work on his footwork, countering and feinting more. Setting up traps rather than thinking he can just walk people down and knock them out. He hasn't got the true power or defence to do that.

Hunter in theory sounds good for this, but it's becoming more obvious all the time that Andre Ward was just a special talent.
