  • Comments Thread For: Brandon Figueroa and Joet Gonzalez share palpable sense of urgency

      Now or never for Joet.

Joet Gonzalez vs world title winning opposition:
W vs Rodrigo Guerrero KO 5 (old, outside his best weight)
L vs Shakur Stevenson UD 12
L vs Emanuel Navarrete UD 12
L vs Isaac Dogboe SD 10
L vs Luis Alberto Lopez UD 12

      25-0 against everybody else.

He has to beat Figueroa or forever be a gatekeeper.

Think Carlos Castro has been treated unfairly, gave a Nery and Fulton a run for their money.

Yet unlike Gonzalez he didn't get ANY title shot. He also tried to be active, unlike Figueroa, tried to get fights going unlike Brandon who was the intentional activity of the Russell Brothers to not burn himself out with accumulated damage, yet he gets further from actually deserving being a top level fighter. He also looks way off, tiring out with limited conditioning, his punching speed and reflexes dulling, too afraid to press now. Rey Vargas vs Brandon Figueroa should had happened by now, never did.

Think Joet will be too consistent for Brandon.

Castro is fighting Rey Vargas for the WBC title next. Fulton is vacating and moving up while champion-in-recess Vargas has been reinstated as champion and will fight Castro for the title.

I can't imagine any way that this will be anything less than a slugfest. I love to watch really good inside fighting and both of these guys bring it. I really don't want either of them to lose.

Yep, I came on here to post that every time Joet stepped up, Joet lost. The Khegai win was good but that was against a guy who also lost when he stepped up. Joet is solid but there isn't that extra bit of power or extra gear witnessed in his fights.

I'm the end i see Joet following form and losing this fight by decision.

Figueroa hasn't exactly been consistent either. He was lucky to receive a draw against Julio Ceja and he lost to Fulton twice, but he does have some good wins against Magdaleno, Nery, Magsayo, and Castro.

But, like his brother Omar, I think Brandon may have aged himself prematurely with his style. Omar went from a solid top 5 level guy to completely washed in the span of two fights and it's quite possible the same has happened to Brandon.

Fig has always appeared to be the type of fighter who has to get busted up along side the head to get going, his first with Fulton should have given him a win but no all he got was a rematch and the night when he could and did beat him they gave him a loss, close as it was for some i saw it oppisite. His brother is nothing in comparision to him just not close. But maybe he did reach his peak already this will and should show a lot of both him and Joet....... that is why they fight the fights in the ring hope for blood and fouls and then a long drawn out battle for all on the cards match ups..... except of Manny Manny gets too drawn out at his age it could be dangerous for him....
