10 round fight, Morrell lost the first 6 and was knocked down. That's a robbery, to me.

So far Cruz looks like he’s adapting well to the pros. He’s extremely talented, so that helps. Cubans developed a system that worked very well in the amateurs (the so-called “Cuban School”), and it worked exceedingly well for decades — so much so that other countries would import Cuban coaches, in hopes of improving their own amateur system. But that style doesn’t usually translate well to the pros, as we’ve seen. Trouble is that it’s become so ingrained that practically all the fighters that come from the island are saddled with it for the rest of their fighting days. Old habits are very hard to break. Morrell is borderline. He’s got great power, a pleasing style and a lot of heart, but his amateur background sometimes shows. I’d say that’ll probably prove true of Andy as well.

Khataev won that clear. Morrell is frustrating to watch because he has tons of talent without the boxing IQ to fully utilize it.

I think Andy Cruz is a special talent and is transitioning well to the pros. He will eat Muratalla alive for breakfast and he will make it look easy.

Wow, Khataev impressive and strong. I didn't see the whole fight, but it seems that many think he beat Morrell.

I’m waiting for someone to upload the full fight on YouTube. From the highlights I’ve seen, Khataev is strong as a bull. He was eating some wicked shots from Morrell. Only a cast-iron chin could withstand that kind of punishment.

...which is another frustrating thing about the fight, now that you mention it. Morrell had him next to out on his feet with about ten seconds to go in the last round; Khataev was no longer throwing, his mouth hanging open and his eyes glazed, and Morrell... Did nothing! Not only would that have been a highlight reel finish, but probably would have catapulted him into even bigger fights. Now, there's questions, and rather than face the next big test, it's likely Morrell will instead rematch Khataev. I'd watch it, sure, but it didn't have to be this way, David.

I didn’t notice that in the footage I watched. Just went through it once, but I was impressed with Khataev’s toughness. Morrell was dropping bombs on his head, and Imam went nowhere.

Well, maaaaaaaaaaybe I was a bit hyperbolic, Khataev wasn't dead out there, but he was visibly tired and shaky and Morrell had him a millimeter away from a KO.
