I actually was at the fight and sat with my (future) wife and Chris Byrd and his wife...and when JT dropped Jirov in the last round I was jumping up and down, ****ING Chris on the shoulder the whole time LOL just slamming my palm down on his shoulder the whole time, that was EXCITING...we were on the stage at Foxwoods so its almost like being in a gym watching sparring, you are that close...GREAT fight...but to tell u the truth, now that I think about it, I have never heard one word about Jirov from anyone in regard to meeting him, what type of guy he is, etc...
Think I asked before but...

Thanks for your reply, i'm envious that you got to see that one live, epic fight.Outside of the ring he seems pretty layed back but in the ring, jesus.
I remember reading that his trainer in Kazakhstan,Alexander Apachinsky, was notoriously tough on his guys and one thing he did was let his German Shepard loose on him sometimes, apparently he has scars on his wrists and back from it.
I guess his style makes sense with training like that.Last edited by Mikhnienko; 10-20-2009, 08:04 AM.Comment

I've seen things like that here and there, trainers doing very extreme things like that and, REALLY, that kind of stuff is just ******. I mean, I dont think that is exactly what made Jirov a champion, you know what I mean? I think he became a champion DESPITE the actions of his coach...Comment

I was also at that fight. Not sure if that was the one I met you at though.
I met George Foreman in Atlantic city right before the Holyfield-Stewart, Pazienza-Honyghan card. He seemed really cool. Have also met Willie Pep at Foxwoods. He sat with us for about ten minutes and was super cool. Didn't talk much boxing but seemed more interested in us as people, asking us questions.Comment

I met Foreman in the fight hotel in Jacksonville when RJ fought Lucas...Big George tried to avoid taking a photo with me... didnt work out for him, though

Amazing how big he is in person. Im sure its the same with meeting Ali. I've known guys who were taller, heavier and built better, but when I met Foreman he was like the biggest guy in the world to me.Comment

I met Ali at one of Laila's fights and he stole the show. He was being escorted to his seat at ringside during one of the preliminary bouts when you could see all of the fans heads and cheers stop and turn their focus to Ali walking down the aisle. The fight in the ring no longer mattered. I was able to shake his hand and he stopped right in front of me and the masses gathered to watch him perform his magic tricks. He must have stayed in the one location standing in the aisle for 10 minutes just performing his magic. It was awesome.Comment

The first time I met him was in 1983 and he had such a huge AURA about him...I met him eight years later...the aura was still there... as strong as ever...Comment
