MJ is a perfectly good fighter but every time I've watched him I always felt like he lacked something special. Very athletic guy, good power with decent skills but something in his temperament and his pace just doesn't seem elite.

From what I seen in MJ's fight with Tapales, he seems to be a fighter that is easily discouraged when under pressure. He was dominantly beating Tapales until he got rocked a few times, then he started to throw low output punches with quite less precision. Then late in the fight he seemed to win rounds convincingly again after he adjusted.

Even in his recent bout, it seemed like he was surprised that a deaf man like Luis Castillo was putting up a fight and was willing to engage. Then MJ clipped him and took over in the last 2-3 rounds where he got the stoppage.

MJ also is a fighter that steadily work until a opportunity presents itself to hurt his opponent, however he isn't primarily a counter puncher though nor is he that busy when pressuring. So doesn't create the opportunities himself by attempting to take risks and hurt his opponents. He lacks the killer instinct to aim to finish the fight.

Former world champion at 122, athletically gifted fighter with a size advantage over Inoue, is heavy handed, is experienced and is a southpaw like Tapales/Nery. Just doesn't have the right mindset that complements his style.

Belts are silly but MJ is ranked 1 at tbrb and 2 at tbe ring. Why wouldnt a belt org also have him highly ranked?

He lost a dubious decision to tapales. If he got kod or something ok i understand but he performed well and didnt get the decision, giving him another shot seems to make perfext sense in this case, as opposed to rabking someone who hasnt fought anyone in hopes they might be good.

inoue has fought everyone else in the top 5 cept goodman and picasso who both ducked him. It would look bad if he said no i don't have to fight the guy who has been the 2nd best fighter at 122 for the past 5 years(inoue already beat the first) because he lost a split decision to a top 5 opponent.

And he'll be in one of Inoue's top 10 opponents.

Can MJ follow through on a good gameplan.

Inoue's gonna work on his mistakes. He's way too smart.
