I don't see any promoter or investor going against this idea. It's their money that is on the line. They also try to spend less as they possibly can. A smaller ring might save them a few thousand dollars. I'd be surprised to see a promoter being against this.

Look how huge the size of this ring is.
This is one of the undercards in the Billy Joe Saunders vs David Lemieux fight:

And BJS's fight with Lemieux was what encouraged him to call out the Mexican superstar. He was so proud of his work in that fight.

It indeed makes a huge difference on boxers whose game plan is to run in a fight.
I don't know about the carnela thing but I remember how happy he was with the ring against lemiuex. Paraphrasing "I saw the ring before the fight and was happy how big it was cause I knew for sure I was gonna win"

Making it seem like he or his team didn't bring it up in negotiations. But if that's the case golden boy or EOTT promotions dropped the ball.

Golden Boy and Frank Warren’s Queensbury Promotions were the main players as EOTT played a very small part in the negotiations for this fight

Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders

BJS I think didn't run around (or disengage) too much in this fight because he was criticized for demanding a huge ring obviously making it appear he's going to do the same in the Lemieux fight. "I'm not David Lemieux," said Alvarez when things began to unravel for BJS.

Yeah, if you go to Google University Library, BJS is associated with ring size issues.
