Obviously thats not true, I Posted many people that placed him in top 15 and that was my argument. Never said top ten. I just said he's one of the best lightweights ever thats not a pen point ranking for top ten it just means he's up there and top 20, top 15 all time is up there in anybody's book. He was avoided during his lightweight campaign that wasn't his fault. In the last 50 years you can say he was top 10 best lightweight. I dont like comparing pre WW1 fighters to fighters post the Korean War. It's apples and oranges and they had way more cheating and padding stats back in those days and even the rules and skills were different.
I don't know what you consider "realistic people" but I'd hazard a guess that there is not a single legitimate historian of this sport such as Cliff Rold for example who we've cited who would even entertain the laughable notion of Shane Mosley being any where near a Top 10 ATG LW list.
His resume at LW is straight up, utter crap. Surely you can't even deny that? He legitimately has one half decent win at the weight.
Even with his "poor" resume the eye test is what ranked him high on many people's list. He just was avoided.Comment

I said actual historians, the only one I see from what you noticed is Cliff. I would doubt any respected historian would have Mosley anywhere near a Top 10 Lighweight list.

Last 50 years? So 1985-Present? Yeah I’m sure Shane would be in there somewhere since a lot of the Lightweigur greats campaigned before that date. Especially the top ones; Duran, Leonard, Ortiz etc
If eye test is your criteria then cool. But most don’t, and his achievements and resume at lightweight are just very poor. It’s just as simple as that really.Comment

Most means majority. Majority of boxing fans are not boxing historians. They would be more recent fans and they would have mosley high in their list. Even 1965 anf up Mosley would be top 20 all time.

Historians are only rating people base on their particular time period not over all. Yes Alexander Great is one of the best generals. That doesn't mean his army can win in 2025. Saladin was also one of the best generals ever that doesn't mean he would win today. Just like most of those lightweights that you posted pre 1920. They were good for their era but placing them on a list for all time is subjective and thats fine but Majority of fans and writers have Shane high on their list for lightweights what ever number you want. Atleast we have one person you respect has him 25 and thats fine. my argument wasn't to find only people you agree with. I am going with the majority opinion not the selective opinion of the minority of core fans. They play favorites.
Like I said before Shane is top 20 in most fans / boxing writers list for lightweighs top 25 depending on the context is also fine for my argument.Last edited by MalevolentBite; 05-23-2025, 06:02 PM.Comment

I think he gave the fans enough joy that he deserves that we let him have this fight, no matter the outcome. For the rest, it's all about his legs; if they're 50 to 70% of what they once were, he has a chance of beating Barrios.
This is the point. He’s not a young man and he can’t do whatever he wants. What he wants, is to turn back the clock and win, but he’s 46 and it won’t happen.
I’m willing to guess he hasn’t been sparring yet, because that would probably raise enough red flags to not schedule this lunacy.Comment
