I‘d like to think, old chap, that we’re most renowned for our literature & for gifting the world football & cricket & the fact that we can no longer be competitive in those activities is neither here nor there!

Brother, I have great reverence for the Brits, my grandfather was one. After the Aussies, you are the best people to run into on vacation (of course I'm not referring to meeting the locals, I don't judge any group by the locals). Just consider the fact that arguably the most famous English woman of my 45 years was Princess Diana, who was arguably just famous for being famous. I'd side with Margaret Thatcher.
My point being Margaret Thatcher was a far more impressive woman, but Diana gets the publicity. No different than here.

That's legit a funny point. I might have been too broad with that statement. I suppose you've ignored all of my above compliments, as I am part British.
What would you say the British are most famous for? The caveat being it has to be what the rest of the world considers you to be famous for. I'd argue that it's imperialism, which is no better than us being famous for slavery.

I’d sorta dial down because the more you know about the transatlantic slave trade, it isn’t something to light-heartedly josh about. I’ve been to Yad Vashem, that is, I’m not exaggerating, a life-changing experience & you come out changed, possibly in a bad way because the evil of humanity has been set out in such a clear way. (For example, I didn’t realise almost all concentration camp guards were from Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia. I heard a politician say ‘who will protect these poor countries from Russian invasion’ & I’m like, there is nothing so bad those MoFos don’t deserve it). The transatlantic slave trade as the other great atrocity & it isn’t something to joke about IMO.

History is the autobiography of a madman. I'm not joking about anything or discounting past atrocities. You seem well traveled and educated as am I. Genocide, although a relatively new term, has been practiced for millennia and is well documented in the history of every civilization that held any sort of power even if relatively regional. The Mesopotamians were practicing it at the dawn of recorded history. The only thing that later changed was it became more widespread as 'global commerce ' actually became a thing. It was always brutal and barbaric, going back to the beginning of recorded history.

Once again, I'd love to have these discussions and debates in another forum. I also love boxing as well as history. This seems out of place

I thought you made your points very constructively & intelligently but, yeah, we’ve moved quite a long way off the original subject that Johnny Fisher can’t use a jab & gets sparked by Dave Allen!

Absolutely! If I was a gambler I would've bet on Allen. As he stated in the lead up, Fisher is a great athlete and a pretty good boxer.
You definitely seem like a great guy to have a beer and chat with during a fight, sure we'd have great conversations. I learned my lesson, going back to lurking in the shadows. Makes it a much more enjoyable experience

I hope not, actually, because I do tend to express my irritation on these pages with the Saudi regime's co-opting of boxing for their (as I see it) nefarious public relations campaign, AKA 'sportswashing'. Although, in my defense, it is in the context of the sport when I do go off the rails in that way.

My recollection is that I scolded you when I thought you were a bit harsh on two-division world titleholder (Light Heavyweight & Cruiserweight) Bobby Czyz. And much to your credit, you responded quickly with an unreserved apology. I still remember that. It was a very stand-up gesture, so kudos to you. Almost unheard-of on these pages.

Crutchman just asked you what the Brits are most famous for, and that could elicit very subjective answers. I agree about the British Empire. I would reach all the way back to 1215 and add the Magna Carta. It took centuries for the fundamental ideals contained therein to take root, but, you know, from humble beginnings come great things. That's something the Brits should be very proud of.

Back to Fisher vs Allen: What does Johnny Fisher mean when he keeps saying 'bosh'? He even called the Copper Box arena the 'Copper Bosh'. It's not a word we use over here where all the guns and Kardashians are.

It’s the Saudi money. Same problem in the US. Everyone is just waiting around for Saudi funded events, both promoters and fighters. As a result there’s no quality shows being scheduled outside of the Riyadh Season wrapper.

I barely ever get to Friday and think I’m looking forward to the boxing this weekend. Maybe happens 5-10 times a year and the majority of them are Saudi funded cards. It’s made the sport seasonal.
