Turki can’t play the fool anymore. Since his dictatorship began, he has been told ad nauseam that the fights he’s spending multi millions on are garbage. He’s been told what fight fans want and which make the most sense. But, since his Ego and dictatorial power, is something he
Turki reminds me of the orange dude living in the WH. He’s bent on doing what he wants which makes no sense, continues to pay fighters like Canelo who are only interest in the check. Imagine if the UFC, which pays fighters one tenth of boxing divas make, stunk out the place like has become acceptable since Turki arrived, they would be out of business.
For those of you who think Turki is involved in “The Boxing League” which was recently announced, be advised that the powers that be of “The League” don’t want him involved at all. In fact, Turki is nothing more than a figure head, so, he will not have any opinion on how “The League” operates or is run. Zero.
In fact many promoters are tell their fighters, take the Saudi money before the pipe runs dry. If he want to over pay, F him.
The Canelo v Crawford is a case in point. For reasons nobody can explain, Turki has been told Crawford didn’t look good against Madrimov. Perhaps the moving up in weight, certainly his skills as well as Cenelo’s are both in decline. If he didn’t look good at 154, what on earth do you expect at 168? Still, Turki’s dictatorship is in his DNA. Canelo v Crawford, will be a bust. Maybe the fool will finally learn.
It takes a fool to learn.

The author is right. Boxing has now become an endangered species.
Once Top rank’s contract expires by the end of July on ESPN. There will be no more mainstream boxing to watch on television.
Demand is so low for the casual fan to the point where television networks can no longer get sponsorships or sell enough ads for these cards.
All boxing would have to be streamed online from
now on. It’s an end of an era.

I don’t think the Times Square card was a bad card considering you had three big time fighters as the A sides, and with the exception of Ramirez, a solid B lister in Barboza, and a well known foil in Romero.
It was decently loaded, unfortunately both Haney fought like Ramirez had a high knockout percentage and Garcia just shelled up the entire 12 rounds.
The Canelo-Scull fight SHOULD NOT have been on PPV, though. A style like Scull’s in the MAIN EVENT of a PPV card…if you’re paying for that, you should know what to expect. I understand the general casual being pissed off, though. They put it on PPV because they have to recoup money from Nelo’s high price tag.
The Times Square card I put much more blame on the fighters than the promoter himself. It should’ve been a decent night, and they blew it.
There have been other times in history where the card or the main event was supposed to be a whitewash or lopsided and it turned out to be a great fight contrary to critics’ expectations: Maidana/Morales.

I wonder how many people on this forum have actually paid to watch any of the fights on the weekend?
Sure there were problems with some of the matchups, but some of the guys are becoming serial offenders in terms of delivering any entertainment value to the fans. I have promised to myself that I will never, ever again pay to watch Canelo (except for the Crawford fight) and Devin Haney. Shakur Stevenson is getting very close to being added to my shytte list as well.
There you go, half the problem solved. No need to get upset.Last edited by brankobugarski; 05-07-2025, 02:28 PM.

It's like there is no timeline that could exist where all 3 cards HIT and we'd have discussion about fights and new stars for weeks and weeks. It didn't happen this time, so I guess just pack it in now?
People will be thinking twice about buying a loaded card? What type of card should they buy then?
10+ name guys from various promotional companies fought on May 5 weekend and it was all done without counter-programming each other.
Maybe it forced or enticed TR to bring Inoue for his US debut - what a huge treat for people who've never been able to watch him on live TV. Does that happen on any other normal May 5 weekend? I don't think it does.
We can argue about some of the logistics, matchmaking and where the fights take place, I get that, but I like this big thinking and am willing to give the "Superbowl of Boxing" concept some room to evolve.

The problem isn't that there were no knockouts. As a longtime boxing fan, I appreciate all aspects of the sport. Sometimes there are knockouts. Sometimes there aren't.
The real problem is that in several of these fights, it didn't look like the fighters were trying.
They looked like glorified sparring bouts.
I'm not sure if boxing ought to consider a rule change, or what.
But what I say on Friday and Saturday was fighters being almost completely unwilling to engage.
That's a problem.
A real problem.ifc likes this.
