Rigondeaux was good against Donaire.

But he has been in some of the most brutally boring boxing matches I have ever seen.

I enjoy it, I can appreciate the precision of it and its very user friendly if you train and spar trying to incorporate it.

By far the most boring to watch.

It has changed quite a bit over the years, at least far as I can tell. Back in the seventies it was on a higher order. Guys threw all punches, had impecable form, great footwork and were technically brilliant. Even fighters like Solis were technically excellent... But then you see fighters like Sanchez makes me wonder what changed. The Cubans always seemed to me like a hybrid style that worked very well in amateur and professional prize fighting.

Also when people critisize the Cuban professional fighters one has to put things in perspective: They are a relatively small island nation compared to Mexico, their fighters constantly do respectfully professionally... Not everyone can be champ.

Meaning bad for the spectators. Rigondeaux had some brutal borefests.

To be fair, Americans like Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney can put people to sleep too.

Talking about Rigondeaux, he had some good wins and spectacular knockouts, and everyone in his division was running from him. Frampton, Quigg, Mares, and ST+ all declined a fight with the guy. Imagine what kind of resume he would have if those guys had grown some balls.

Levels to the game type thang IMO. People who appreciate the technical level of boxing traditionally have held the Cuban style in high regard. I personally think the world of the traditional Cuban training. People who want to see a scrap may well fail to understand the skill it takes to prevent the other guy from knocking your block off, without simply resigning oneself to "kill, or be killed."

Perfect example, I was watching Tommy Morrison against Foreman on YOutube. George moved like a chess piece making Tommy scramble across the ring, Another one was Caleb Plant... what killed him against Canelo? He moves so inefficiently, like Morrison was moving against George. Cuban foot work teaches a fighter how to move properly without exhausting oneself scrambling when you cannot back your man up. Small circles, proper distance... subtle adjustments that make the sweet science sweet.

boxers were afraid of Rigoneaux, and he was old, imagine if he defected in his prime. It was another Cuban in the card, SMW Bryan Leon, he fought against a Mexican, only 22yo and he was not running.

Cuban style is great at making both fighters look terrible. Definitely not friendly to fans who like to see serious leather getting traded. If you love hit but don't get hit, it's got plenty of value. I'd rather watch Inoue, Chocolatito, Bam Rodriguez, Lomachenko, etc personally. And it's really nice when they've got the power to stop their opponents. I think the world of Bivol and Usyk, but their lack of power in their current divisions takes a lot of the suspense and excitement out of the fight. Let's not even get into Shakur and Haney...

Although I actually like Rigo. Just wish he was a little more offensively minded. The current Cuban school as represented by guys like Morrell Jr, Andy Cruz, and Osley Iglesias is very fun to watch though.
