This fight in Japan is almost as bad as Boots. Tokyo is a hard out. Sasaki go twelve and welters move east.

Next, he's to fly out to Japan for his next fight - which is unlikely to help him build a fan base in his country / home town (but maybe, somehow, his handlers/manager will see this a good thing).

Meanwhile, Boots now has 2 belts and has increased his profile by beating Stanionis and it makes zero sense for team Norman to financially benefit from the work Boots is doing to build his profile.

For people who follow boxing, it looks a certain way when fighters turn down career high money - it looks like:
      • the fighter or team aren't confident of winning
      • or they don't really want the the fight and are pricing themselves out
      • or, they're trying to sell their belt to the highest bidder
But I'm not naive, negotiation is about what you can get, not necessarily what you deserve. But let's hope team Norman don't repeat the Adam Kownacki story...
Let's just see how much Norman jr makes to fight Sasaki in Japan, then get back to me.

Well, apparently Norman Senior thinks so. And I'm guessing his thinking is : "Almost same purse for a fight my son can definitely win, and if he does, the Boots fight is still there".

He already said after his last fight that the weight cut was difficult this last time out so I doubt he has much time left at 147.
Per that article and poster, Matchroom will "have to offer Norman $3 million eventually to face boots".

Most likely scenario is Boots will move up, scattering his belts. Norman Jr. will be carefully protected and avoid any real threat at WW and go back to fighting for random fighters for $200k-$300k purses until a mandatory beats him and he fades into irrevelancy!

$3 million!! Get TF outta here with that!
Even Bivol was only guranteed $2 million when he faced and beat the Face of Boxing, Canelo!
NOBODY outside of hardcore boxing fans know who either Ennis, let alone Norman Jr. are!
Like I said, let's just wait and see how much Norman Jr. will get to face Sasaki, a fight he can definitely win. And let's also see what Boots move will be.

I understand his rationale, but this has the makings of an upset: you're scheduled to face a hard-punching opponent in his home country, but your team is overlooking him and discussing a bigger match-up instead.

              Brian “Quack Quack” Norman Jr.

He blatantly ducked Boots and turned down $1.7 million. The fans aren’t going to forget.

Certainly a duck for sure, but businesswise certainly looking like a very smart duck so far...

Option 1) Fight Boots immediately for 1.7 mil and lose his belt and never see daylight again

Option 2) Fight a chump change 150k for a victory lap defense in America, followed by over $1 mil for a voluntary defense in Japan against a guy significantly easier than Boots and very likely keeping his belt, fight a mando here and there for chump change until Boots is willing to up the offer and get a total of over 3 mil for losing the belt and then never see daylight again.

Option 3) Fight a chump change 150k for a victory lap defense in America, followed by over $1 mil for a voluntary defense in Japan against a guy significantly easier than Boots and very likely keeping his belt, fight a mando here and there for chump change until Boots vacates the belt and then fight others in easy unifications to earn more than 1.7 mil and stay a "champion" long term.

Right now he's at option 2 or 3. Despite what Eddie wants to say, everyone knows if Boots is really desperate for going undisputed, I'm sure he'll cave to Norman's counter and offer over 2mil especially if that is the last belt left given that he caved for Stanionis as well and Norman definitely knows it. Now if Norman loses to Sasaki...well, he lost his bet but the % is certainly in his favor.

Voilą! That's what I've been trying to explain to these haters, but hey.. They know what's best for the Norman family.

$150,000 + $1 million (which hasn’t even been confirmed) is still significantly less than $1.7 million.

Should boxing fans condone taking less money to make less compelling fights just so that a guy doesn’t lose his belt? Are you watching this sport to cheer on the best busines man, or to see the best fight the best?
