Perez' consistent body attacks were the difference. Good win for him and he dispelled a boogeyman in the division. He's gonna get some opportunities now.

    Conwell gets back to work.

I don't really recall Conwell having to deal with much adversity in the ring other than the Abreu fight.

The cut seemed to affect Conwell mentally and the fact his opponent wasn't just folding for him (and in fact was unloading his own punches with bad intent). Cong**** to Jorge, he definitely deserved that one.

I also want to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see the judges reward the victory to the deserving man. Yeah it was fairly close but Jorge won that...I was fully expecting them to to bail Conwell out in that one.

In a split decision, where Conwell landed the most shots - and there are no "Conwell was robbed" posts (so far). Interesting.

Are you paying attention Dalton Smith, Albert Bell, and Omar Trinidad? Three other guys that have flashy records, high rankings, get tons of hype, but never fight anybody.
Dalton smith was on the right track going through the domestic route than fighting a guy like Zepeda who has boxed at a high level, but his last two fights the opponents have been poor and he should be fighting alot better operators than the guy he fought last night especially now hes European champion and ranked number 1 with the WBC. Should be fighting guys like Liam Paro,Jarmaine Ortiz or jack catteral but it seems like there keeping him busy until a mandatory is called and he can fight Puello for the title but that's a tough fight especially when you haven't been boxing decent operators in you're last couple of fights because Puello can really fight

DIFFERENT SUBJECT: There needs to be a movement where unbeaten fighters are banned from fighting 35 year old opponents with 10 or more losses. Yesterday was a fest of missmatches on two different shows and that cannot be allowed! These opponents did not belong in the ring in these woeful embarassing mismatches! 18 losses???? 15 losses???? 11 losses - SHAME ON BOXING FOR ALLOWING THIS!!!

Now that Puello/Matias is happening in July, i would prefer if Smith fought a top-tier opponent in the meantime. Paro/Smith is a great match-up, and also good preparation for Puello. But it is uncommon for a contender to jeopardize their title shot by fighting contenders that are as good or better than the titlist. If MR wants an easier opponent, get Claggett (WBC #13).

Big Conwell fan here. Not ready to write his obituary just yet. Shades of Carlos Adames v Patrick Teixeira where the bully/A side could not subdue the "unknown" underdog. As a boxing fan I am happy Perez was not robbed in a close affair. Conwell will learn from this. He is still legit in my book.

I didn’t see that coming either—Conwell looked off from round one. Felt like he underestimated his opponent big time. Reminded me of matches on game bai doi thuong, where the underdog suddenly flips the score when everyone’s betting against them. Styles make fights, and Garcia’s pressure just broke him down. I wouldn’t be surprised if Conwell takes a long break after this one.
