  • What was Vitali boxing style ?

He was very defensive for a hard hitting heavyweight. For the most part he was always looking for a Knockout and he threw alot of power shots at his opponents while moving. He reminds of a slugger but some say he is out-boxer since he was constantly moving ?

An awkward defensive volume puncher? best I can describe him.

He was quite odd really. He threw volume when moving definitely. Could hold a big shot and is a hard, hard man, massive and punched his weight and was well conditioned, and consistent.

He's one of those I find hard to give wins to in fantasy fights. His style doesn't lend itself to that.

To employ a movement style of avoiding fighters with a pulse.

Ok "seriously" Vitalie was trained and fought in an amateur style. Jab step, repeat until perhaps opponent is affected, then maybe throw the power shot. Very basic style, which is not always a bad thing except most trainers would not favor such a style for professional. I do think this held him back.

I'm not sure how you guys consider him defensive. The dude was always on the attack. Watch him bull doze Danny Green. Give a FOTY candidate performance vs Corrie Sanders and watch him "spear" Kirk Johnson. The dude was offensive as far as I'm concerned and always loved a good scrap. Sure, he was awkward, but perhaps that was his attribute.

Vitali has the best rounds won to rounds lost on the scorecards throughout the career of ANY champion...I think. He lost no more than three three rounds in ANY of his 47 fights which included 141 total judges. Who else can say that? Who?

But the question is, what was his style? IMO , Vitali was a master of distance, and used his height , reach, and weight advantages to the fullest. He was a very active fighter , as punch stats will show, and had counter punching skill on top of that. Blessed with good reflexes and feet that covered a lot of ground quickly, he used ALL of the above to " zone guys " in places he could hit, and his opponent had difficulty in hitting back.

In a nutshell I think that was his style. An engaging boxer, who happened to be a puncher with underrated defensive skills. He was selom hit by combinations.

His style was jabbing while fighting off the back foot with his chin sticking slightly in the air. He was very difficult to hit.
