Comments Thread For: For Canelo Alvarez, William Scull is next ? but a world of options awaits

Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez is returning to action for his traditional date on Cinco De Mayo weekend, but it won?t be under any of the other circumstances a majority of fans would have preferred ? or even accepted.

Don't know much about Scull aside from the little bit seen in his title win, but I wouldn't count out anybody that comes from the Cuban school of boxing. Dude has skills and is undefeated, but unknown and untested. If he can rise to the level and show the type of skill that some of his Cuban compatriots of recent times have had, it might be a more difficult fight than folks might think for Canelo.

Amazing how some writers hate Canelo. Talking about him losing to Bivol for example. Canelo chose Bivol to tset himself against a very good but much bigger opponent and gave him a payday. Itīs as if Bivol challenged Usyk, but Bivol is too comfortable at his weight and has not proved himself. His win vs Canelo was on points and no harm done to Canelo, heīs still the face of boxing, not Bivol and has the best record today, not Usyk, not Crawford, nor Benavidez.

Nobody is challenging themselves, Beterbiev and Bivol would never dare to fight Usyk, Benavidez will and I guarantee will avoid Bivol, and Crawford is not risking anything by taking a year off in order to get that retirement check in September.

Canelo is the face of boxing, he filled up that arena yesterday in New York of all places, just for a press conference. More people were there than the 50 people that went to see the Bivol/Beterbiev fight, more people went to see Canelo talk than a championship fight, LOL.

Cmon man, thats either ignorant or disingenuous.

Canelo's consistent weight for years prior to the Bivol fight was 168, with previous forays at 175 (Kovalev). He moved up 7 pounds, a 4% increase in weight to take on Bivol. Usyk weighed 226 for his last fight at heavyweight, that is over 50 pounds more than Bivol or a 29 percent increase. Not even close to the same.

He is irrelevant outside of his own fanbase.
From the energy and the amount of folks at his conference yesterday, it would appear that the relevancy of his fanbase outweighs that of any other boxer's fanbase which makes him the most important boxer in the western part of the hemisphere.

His conference was livelier than that of Ryan, Devin and Teo's which was at the same spot just a few days back. Listen to the roar of the folks at Ginger's conference in comparison to the 3 Americans that are fighting on the same card. Shoot, Teo's from New York and that didn't help generate the buzz that Ginger generates, and Ginger's not even from The States...

Yeah man, I noticed that too. I'm not a big fan of Ginger, but he definitely is the face of boxing, at least here in The States.. I was surprised at how many folks went to see his conference and how loud his fans were every time he said something. That fkr was treated like a rockstar in New York yesterday....
