    Where were YOU??

I use specific fights (BOXING) to remember my life. Generally speaking, if you tell me a fight I saw I can tell you who I was friends with at the time, where I was and what I was doing.

Example, exhibit A: 1. October 10, 1987 Frank Tate vs Michael Olajide for the IBF middleweight title. I was fighting in the finals of the National PAL tournament in Jacksonville, Florida that day against Kertis Mingo at 165 pounds and we watched the Tate - Olajide fight in our hotel room before we left for the arena. (Tate W-12 Olajide)

    2. August 19, 1982. I was in the police explorers staying at Westover Air Force Base for the Police Explorers Academy week when they let us take a trip to a store off base and I read in the newspaper that Alex Ramos had lost the previous day to Ted Sanders.

    3. Marlon Starling-Mark Breland rematch in (March??) 1988. I watched it at the Civic Pub downtown Hartford with my boy Dan Nolan and it was so crowded and loud that I could not hear the decision announced but I left there assuming that Marlon had won the decision. I did not find out until the next morning that the fight had been called a draw.

    4. Mike Tyson-Carl “The Truth” Williams -I believe it was June 1989- and I watched it with my friend Mark at Monia Goin‘s house at Squire Village in Manchester

    5. Chavez-Sweet Pea, D-12. Watched it at Pepe Vazquez’ apartment on Capital Ave. in Hartford…thought Pea won that one clearly!!!

I was at that fight live. I had fought on ESPN the night before and a group of us from the gym drove over from Connecticut to Madison Square Garden to watch the fight.

I was in Las Vegas training Chad Dawson and a group of us went to the Khan-Garcia fight but when we got there, we had only been left a certain amount of tickets and we were one short so right there in the lobby I volunteered to sit that fight out because my friend Bronco McKart was fighting at the Palms hotel across town so I drove over there and watched him fight live instead.

Met Charlie Murphy for the second day in a row at that fight and talked for a little while

                    - - Two of the Biggest fights I ever saw as far as names and highly give and take bouts were in time order...

1.Pryor vs Arguello I believe the most competitive high level boxing shoot out I've ever witnessed. I was at a downtown Austin Bar with nothing but fight fans going crazy over what they never witnessed at that level of give and take along stupendous power alloyed with boxing nuance, style, and strategy changes.

                    2. Big George vs Field where Field jumped out to the lead midrounds only to run out of gas as Big George kept walking him down. Field was holding on for dear life those last round and most of us thought George pulled it out. I was married with kids, so pulled a fast one telling my wife I was going over to my bro's place which is where I parked. His best buddy was down a couple of houses with the fight on where I joined in with the main instigators to buy the PPV.

I was found out in the middle of the fight, but of course my alibi was sound because I was with my bro and she didn't know I was one of the financiers.
