I wonder was Russell that good or did Valenzuela just refused to try? This looked nothing like the Valenzuela who defeated Issac Cruz.
What a very lackluster and disappointing performance by El Rayo? Perhaps he was just an overachiever after all. Had I been Robert Garcia I would have threw in the towel.
Taking a one-sided asswhupping like that is just not worth it. He may have easily ruined his fighter’s career with that performance.Last edited by champion4ever; 03-04-2025, 05:44 AM.Comment

I had bought back in on Jose, I thought he would really breakout this year if he could win this fight because it wasn't going to be easy, he'd have had to prove it. It was a good fight for both guys if they could win it.
I could harp on how disappointed I was by Rayo, but really I just want to say how impressive it was by Russell to fight how he did. I am one of those people who though Jose could take advantage of momentary spots of recklessness/coming in wide from Russell, but it never happened at all, he just raised his game and cleaned it all up. Excellent performance from RussellLast edited by LA_2_Vegas; 03-05-2025, 04:49 PM.Comment

His best chance would have been to swarm Russell with bunches of punches, but even if he had done that, I doubt Valenzuela beats Russell on that night. I'm of the opinion that Robert Garcia failed to rustle up the proper strategy for his fighter that night.Comment

Russell literally schooled Valenzuela, but Valenzuela didn't get the type of hurtful beating that ruins a fighter. Valenzuela's game plan was totally wrong. He tried boxing Russell, but he's no where near as skilled a boxer as Russell is.

In any case, I couldn't score a single round for El Rayo. At least not on my unofficial scorecard. Antuanne was just too overly aggressive for him. He pressured him throughout the entire fight.

You are right and I agree. No, he didn't suffer any long lasting punishment from the bout to the point; Where he was nearly stopped. However, Russell did manage to hurt him several times.

Even in his losses against Los santos he was a different animal or vs Colbert

I don't think he was himself due to Russell's skills. Neither Los Santos nor Colbert were as quick and precise as Russell was. Valenzuela was able to hurt and land frequently on both Colbert and Los Santos early in those fights, but not on Russell. You could see the look of discouragement on Valenzuela's face early in the fight when he wasn't able to land anything on Russell.Comment
