Were Jack and Arnold trying to bring us back memories of Hector Camacho and Guillermo Rigondeaux? Because if they were, they blooming well succeeded. It was as though the conversation went:
Catteral: "Oh boy, I'm going to be so inactive, you'll never recover from it".
Barboza: "Bring two La-Z-Boy chairs, I'm going to gently flick you to death, whilst I read my newspaper".
Referee: "anyone for a cup of tea?".

It became clear for me in the first rounds that Catterall would just stand, pose and wait for attacks just content in countering. It's clear there'll never be any exchanges even for just 5 seconds in the fight, not even in the final round.
Not a fan-friendly style and a style that is relegated to non-televised undercard fights. I certainly don't want to see such style again unless the opponent is some super aggressive KO artist. Yeah, I want see that boring style put to bed.PNUT901 likes this.

The boringness of the fight was almost exclusively Catterall's fault. He has a style which proves difficult to be aggressive against for fighters as he just boxes of the backfoot looking for counters and makes his opponents come towards him. He does find occasional moments of success with the left hand and its that which deters opponents from over committing - the problem is his output is EXTREMELY low which provides for a horrendous viewing spectacle...
At least guys like Lara, while boring fans for a few rounds, knew how and when to detonate the missile left to change the course of a fight, Cateralll is just an awful fighter to watch!

What is the difference between effective aggressiveness, ring generalship and clean punching? I thought Catterall landed the cleaner punches throughout the fight.
However, he fought almost exclusively on the back foot; Which is something that judges absolutely detest nowadays. It doesn't matter how many more punches are thrown or clean punches that are landed by the backfoot fighter either.
It was also the reason why Bivol lost to Beterbiev. Sure, down the stretch; Artur did have his moments later in the fight. However, It just wasn't enough to overcome Bivol's strong start, clean punching and overall ring generalship.
Hands down Dmitry threw and landed the cleaner punches of the two but Artur was the one fighting off the front foot; So they awarded him the decision no matter how ineffective his aggression was. Not once did he ever cut off the ring.
Judges tend to favor the pressure fighter and the aggressor; No matter how ineffective the pressure or aggression is. Today the sweet science has become all but obsolete. Whatever happened to hit and to not get hit?
u even see it on here a mover who lands nice shot throughout the fight but ends up losing on the cards and the legions here saying he deserved to lose as hes a coward boring who wants to watch that u cant win a fight running away ete etc some judges are like that too if u do land the cleaner shots but less of them its should not be an anto LLLLL if you are going backwards at timeschampion4ever likes this.
