Morrell might have gotten into Benavidez's head but not in a way that helped Morrell.
He probably made things worse for himself.

Morrell seems to be a decent dude from what ive seen. Talked some smack but generally respectful and a warrior, and acted really cool post fight.

Boxing has a way of getting the bad blood out. You get to physically put hands on the other guy, which satisfies the desire for payback and purges the negative emotions.

That's what separates Boxing from savagery , the respect and sportsmanship shown after the battle. It's a beautiful thing.
The best example that I have ever seen of that was the post fight behavior between Nonito Donaire and Nicolas Axe Man Walters. If that didn't move you , you're dead inside.

Hopkins - Pavlik as well...Even for a couple moments after the final bell, they wouldn't snap out of character. Then in the post fight interview, B-Hop told Kelly he was now family. That was some good shizz.
