Comments Thread For: David Benavidez makes his own way in win over David Morrell Jnr

Morrell never appeared hurt but the volume coming at him was too overwhelming and accurate. He had Benny dead to rights and on the back foot more than once and had no follow-up. Benny definitely felt his power. There was a brief moment where he could have KO'd Benny along the ropes late in the fight; he just stood there. Infuriating. I thought Benny looked great in the center of the ring but he devolves the closer he gets to the ropes, even when he's on the offensive. It was a great fight overall. Both guys worked and got worked. -
Morrell just had a high guard while being used like a punchbag. Sorry, but he didn't look good in there last night. Horrible stamina (He was gassed after a few rounds) no snap on his shots. No power. Accuracy was poor. Terrible shape and form. Poor movement. He was clearly beaten. It wasn't competitive in the slightest.
The point deduction was correct. It was clearly after the bell. The ref could have given Benny 5 minutes to recover as he clearly wobbled Benny with that shot. The fact the ref let it go on once the round started let's us know he wasn't doing some dirty work in there.
As for the KD. It was a balance issue more than any power from Morrell. Power that Morrell clearly didn't have in there.
yeah was not impressed with him. the only thing he really showed was a good chin. i guess his power was good he didnt get through much. His defense was terrible bena could land almost at will and he never found a real solution for bena's defense.
Morrell should fight someone like caleb plant who will just sit there and box with him. i would like to see that fight see how he does, if his defense is just as bad as it was last night then he can lose that one too or if his defense is better with a slower pace and he maybe just got overwhelmed by the volume and variation bena has.

Morrell has good power and he even manage to really hurt Benavidez in round 11, BUT for most of the fight his punches did not land cleanly because Benavidez has really good defense. For example, the punch after the bell which landed cleanly really wobbled Benavidez as well.
Conventional wisdom before the fight was that Morrell was the better boxer courtesy of his Cuban training, but it was Benavidez that was the better boxer yesterday. They both had good chins, they both have reasonably good stamina (Benavidez improved from the Gvozdk fight) but Benavidez was a lot more accurate with his punches and he managed to block most of Morrell's big shots. His defense was superb and his offense was pin point accurate.Last edited by BrankoB; 02-02-2025, 03:20 PM.Leave a comment:

All in all Benavidez clearly won, while Morrell showed he could take punishment and gave a good account of himself.

really sad to rob morrell exuberance , what the 12th round coulda been. if all he does is just win the 12th, its 114-113 and people look different. maybe he gets a kd and then its a draw. morrell is more performance wow

Who has Canelo taken out that wasn't completely crippled beforehand and was his size?
Canelo isn't close to being a puncher. Nor would he come close to beating Benny. There's a reason why he's been running for years and continues to do so. Forget about that fraud. He's had his chances to take the fight but clearly doesn't believe in himself. He knows Benny would wreak him.Leave a comment:

I don’t want to take your word for what would happen.
It would be a fight to make just because of Benavidez rating as of now... Now Benavidez didn't bring the Power to LHW as we could see in both Gvozdyk and Morrell fights... So in the best option for him he would be outboxed by the Boxer and in the least option he would be out-stalked by the stalker ... No real way for a win in both options unless the "It's Boxing, anything can happen..." scenario .... Don't get me wrong here...I like David and what he did in his career to overcome his flaws... But let's get real here... Not chance vs the 2 top dogs...
I want to actually see it.Leave a comment:

Many of Benevidez's shots sounded so hard and you could see the thudding impact, but Morrell ate them. Either he has a legendary beard or the shots were somehow not as hard as they appeared and sounded.
I look forward to Benevidez future bouts because I imagine he continues to fill in a bit and get even better.
I thought the same thing with cruz and feirro, some of those shots landed sounded hard as *** and they just ate them.
im wondering if they had a better mic or better gain or something on the in ring mics last night, cause yeah you could hear the punches really well but the guys just ate themLeave a comment:
